@DrFrancisYoung History as politics? I became a gender historian for precisely that reason. History as a discipline can show us alternative possible worlds, provide a foundation for political movements and agendas, and ensure that we can hold authority to account.
@DrJanMachielsen I've been working on witches and mountains, too. There's Praetorius. Goethe describes the mysteries of the Brocken; in Manfred, Byron, drawing on Faust, has the Witch of the Alps. HTR probably drew on that romantic tradition. That's all perhaps too late, though.
@laurakounine A great partner, perseverence, supportive colleagues and scaling back on anything that allows you to be family-focused. That's why I didn't write much for the last two decades. Now the youngest is 17, I'm up working at gone midnight!
@odavies9 They aren't common in European trials, only in European theological discourse about witchcraft. There was a huge gap between what demonologists said and what witches tended to confess (notable examples notwithstanding).
"Safe communities are strong communities" - @YvetteCooperMP visited @SharonStevenage in Shephall to talk about Labour's plans to tackle crime and disorder #Stevenage

@odavies9 If you add in all the overlapping jurisdictions, you're probably nearer a thousand. There were 16 in Eichstatt alone covering a population of probably 8000 people.
@RHULHistory@monarchomach Very sad. Justin was my PhD advisor way back when, and a generous, supportive colleague when I taught for others in the department.
@DrAndreKeil This is not good news. We have incorporated a work-based module into our BA History programme since 2012 (for the last few years compulsory). Humanities subjects can be usefully career-focused without diluting being diluted.
