“This bill was written in a tortured way to make sure CBO did not score the mandate as taxes. If CBO scored the mandate as taxes, the bill dies.”

They hid the cost on purpose.

Then this: “Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. Call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever. But basically, that was really, really critical to getting the thing to pass.”

He admitted they chose deception over honesty because an honest bill would have died.

The Supreme Court later ruled the mandate WAS a tax anyway.

Mitchell Paige ran from gun to gun along a ridge on Guadalcanal, working four machine guns by himself after every other man in his section was dead or wounded, and single-handedly held the line against a Japanese regiment through the night. He was the other great machine gunner of Guadalcanal, alongside John Basilone, and like Basilone he lived to tell it.

Paige was a platoon sergeant, the son of Serbian immigrants, defending a ridge that guarded Henderson Field, the airfield the whole battle for Guadalcanal revolved around. On the night of October 26, 1942, the Japanese launched a massive assault against the Marine line, thousands of men coming out of the jungle in the dark, and the weight of it fell on Paige's section. In the ferocious fighting his machine gun crews were cut down one by one until every other man was dead or too badly wounded to fight, and Paige was alone on the ridge with the enemy pouring toward him.

So he fought all the guns himself. He ran from position to position along the crest in the dark, firing one machine gun until it was knocked out or in danger of being overrun, then dashing to the next, keeping up a continuous fire so the Japanese could never tell that a single man was holding the whole line. He moved, fired, moved again, hour after hour, burning his hands on the hot barrels, refusing to let the position fall, because if it fell the enemy would be through to the airfield.

When dawn came and reinforcements finally arrived, Paige did not just hold, he attacked. He cradled a hot machine gun in his arms, its water jacket steaming, and led a bayonet charge down the ridge to drive the surviving Japanese back. The line had held. His single-handed stand had helped stop the biggest Japanese effort yet to retake Guadalcanal.

They gave Mitchell Paige the Medal of Honor. He survived the war, was commissioned an officer, and lived a long life, the last surviving Marine Medal of Honor recipient from Guadalcanal, the man who ran the whole line by himself in the dark.

Beef prices aren't up becuase of tariffs you moron. They are up because:
1. 4 meatpackers have consolidated the entire industry and are currently under investigation for price fixing.
2. Cattle herds are at record lows because of leftist policy for the past 10 years intentionally trying to destroy the meat industry to prevent climate change.
3. We imported 40 million people in the past 4 years that are all subsudized by the government to buy beef from walmart.

This is all well known and the American left has been public about this for years. A temporary waver of tariffs on foreign beef to bring prices down during midterm elections is not proof that tariffs are bad or that the current situation is caused by tariffs.

Joe Jackson was a Georgia man who had already fought two wars before Vietnam. He flew B-25 bombers in World War II and 107 combat missions in Korea. By 1968 he was a lieutenant colonel flying something far less glamorous than a fighter, a C-123 Provider, a big, slow, twin engine cargo hauler. And it was in that lumbering transport that, on May 12, 1968, he did one of the most astonishing things any pilot did in the entire war.

The Special Forces camp at Kham Duc was being overrun and evacuated. In the chaos, a three man Air Force combat control team was accidentally left behind on the airstrip, three men alone as the enemy poured onto the field. The North Vietnamese had already set up guns right on the runway and were raking it with mortars, machine guns, and recoilless rifles. The strip was flatly declared impossible to land on. Aircraft that tried to get in were being shot up. Those three men were, by any reasonable measure, lost.

Joe Jackson volunteered to go get them, in his cargo plane. He could not do a normal approach, so he did something insane and brilliant. He rolled his C-123 into a steep dive from altitude, plunging toward the runway at maximum speed to give the enemy the smallest possible window, then slammed the big transport down onto the cratered, burning strip and stood on the brakes. The three trapped men sprinted from cover and threw themselves aboard. As they did, a North Vietnamese recoilless rifle round skidded across the runway straight at his aircraft and stopped just in front of it without exploding. Jackson shoved the throttles forward, hauled the loaded plane back into the air through the gunfire, and flew all three men out alive.

An American aircraft circling overhead happened to photograph his C-123 sitting on that runway in the middle of it all. It is said to be possibly the only photograph in existence of a Medal of Honor action as it happened.

President Johnson gave Joe Jackson the Medal of Honor in 1969. A veteran of three wars who, in a slow cargo plane everyone said could not do it, dove into an overrun airfield to bring three strangers home. He lived a long life and died in 2019 at the age of 95.
