The genocide in Gaza requires a UN emergency humanitarian escort force. @AnitaAnand, @MarkCarney@BobRae48, @DavidLametti. Here's what Canada could do at the UNGA, drawing on the precedent set by Lester Pearson's Nobel Prize winning initiative in 1956. https://t.co/wA6zOUAKZa
In our Open Letter to @MarkJCarney & @AnitaAnandMP, 412 legal, human rights, diplomatic, international affairs, social justice, UN, civil society, faith & labour leaders & experts make it unflinchingly clear: Canada must act to end genocide in #Gaza.
Waiting, vacillating, remaining silent and failing or, worse, refusing to act in the face of mounting and incontrovertible evidence of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity can no longer be options for Canada.
But it is not enough to simply speak out. Canada must do everything in its power to stop these atrocities and support efforts to bring those responsible to account. That requires immediate action in five priority areas and galvanizing joint measures at next week's #G7Summit:
1. Work actively towards an immediate, permanent ceasefire and the release of all Israeli and Palestinian captives.
2. Insist on full humanitarian access to Gaza in a manner in keeping with core humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence, and demand that the Israeli ban on the UN Relief and Works Agency be completely lifted.
3. Publicly support the role of and fully comply with international courts in holding to account those who violate international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory including Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and Israel.
4. Pursue all possible domestic measures, including immediately withdrawing from the free trade agreement between Canada and Israel, imposing sanctions on Israeli leaders and other individuals suspected of involvement in atrocity crimes, initiating investigations into charges of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity under the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act (including any Canadians or dual nationals involved in such crimes) with the aim of prosecuting offenders in Canada or other jurisdictions, enforcing a full and comprehensive two-way arms embargo, and stripping charitable status from organizations found to be complicit in crimes under international law.
5. Without further delay, join the 149 states who recognize the State of Palestine and support all efforts for Palestine to be admitted as a full member of the United Nations.
We end noting that ...
"Prime Minister, there is no question as to which side of history Canada belongs. Because of Canada’s proclaimed “shared values” and close relationship with Israel, Ottawa must spare no effort to bring the genocide in Gaza, and the war crimes and crimes against humanity in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, to an immediate end. Upholding international law is the only avenue through which not only peace, justice and human rights, but the durable, long-term security of Israelis and Palestinians alike will be achieved."

I see Canada was a sponsor of the resolution at the UN HRC on Realizing ESC rights https://t.co/peIvD8rsl6 supporting ratification of the optional complaints procedure (OP-ICESCR)! @melaniejoly and @s_guilbeault I hope Canada will follow that recommendation!!!
Israel has resumed its genocidal attacks against the people of Gaza as the fragile ceasefire now looks to have failed. A world where this level of savagery is not only allowed, but supported and praised, is a barbaric world without any values and decency. https://t.co/eEqTWGdUtU
#Gaza: last night’s Israeli airstrikes and shelling, which killed hundreds, are horrifying.
This nightmare must end immediately. We urge all parties with influence to do all in their power to achieve peace - UN Human Rights Chief @volker_turk.
Israel killed my sister and her children tonight, along with her entire family.
Israel may kill us at will, burn us alive, and tear us apart, but it will never succeed in uprooting us from our land.
Justice and accountability await—no matter how long it takes.

🚨I can’t post anything. I can’t write or share the horrifying photos and videos from #Gaza.
Israel’s brutality is terrifying. The world remains silent, indifferent, not even watching.
I’m exhausted and filled with despair. Sometimes, I just wish for all of life to end.
As the world wakes up to the harrowing images of children slain by Israeli bombs across the entire Gaza Strip AGAIN, we cannot bear witness to global leaders JUST. DOING. NOTHING. This is an acceleration of the genocide that Israel is committing against the Palestinian people as a whole. We already failed to prevent it and our Governments have an even greater obligation to stop it now.

Labour shadow foreign secretary David Lammy reiterates that Labour would seek to implement an arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu if one was issued by the #ICC.
(NB: Canada has sadly / shockingly not done so. @BobRae48 @melaniejoly) https://t.co/Hu2hPYK75x
You said it's OK to protestpolicy, but didn't mention that the protesting the real estate sale addressed what has become public this week, that Israel's plan is to annex the West Bank in violation of all international law. I thought you were above this kind of disinformation.
@VanJones68 I was shocked to hear you on @CNN describing a demonstration in front ot the synagogue in LA has targeting a "people" without informing viewers that the protest was about the illegal sale of Palestinian land inside the synagogue.

In the midst of despair over the horrific ongoing genocide in Palestine I do find hope with the new generation and students around the world protesting. Paying a visit to the encampment at Cambridge University UK this morning. I’m ashamed to be part of a generation that honoured student protest and some of whose members occupying positions of power now vilify and suppress it.
This genocide is changing history.
Longstanding narratives are being laid to rest, buried in the rubble of Gaza.
