Was nails in a CG effort on the mound for the Monarchs scattering 2 runs on 5 hits, striking out 9.

Consistently mixed a low-80s FB and sweeping breaking ball to keep hitters off balance.

Couple reels from the State Tourney. We came up 1 pt short of a state championship. Tough game. Great season. Finished 25-2.

Had 18, 33, & 17 in the 3 state games.

Congrats to St. James Academy on the title.

Remember this girl I posted about 2 years ago?

Well, she tallied 16.2 ppg as a freshman last year at Hays and now as a sophomore is already averaging 24.8 ppg after 4 games this season. Div I schools might wanna start paying attention, including K-State. Currently rated the 3rd best 2028 prospect in the State of KS (Prep Girls Hoops)…she is the real deal.

In the middle of an impressive outing on the mound, Schmeidler shows he can handle the bat at a high level too, driving a 2 RBI 2B into the gap.

Sports in Kansas 2025 5A Girls 🏀Coach of the Year: Len Melvin, Hays

Mevlin has 71 wins in his five years and elevated the program to new heights with its undefeated regular season as the Indians would drop a 51-48 heartbreaker to eventual state champion Aquinas in round one of the 2025 state tournament in Emporia to finish with a 22-1 record. Hays also got to close out their gym undefeated on the year as the last year ever in it before the new school is being built. Jenna Schmeidler was one of the best freshman in the state this season for Melvin so the future is bright but do graduate Molly Martin another all state caliber player who had an incredible career for Hays. Hays also gave 4A champion Wellington their only loss this year. This team was the real deal in 2025. Melvin is a graduate of Colby High School and FHSU. He tells us his assistant coaches have been so valuable to his program. “This year was such a special year with such a special group of athletes and coaches. We were able to accomplish so much this year and move our program in the right direction. This is a season I will certainly never forget.” Melvin told Chet Kuplen of Sports in Kansas earlier this week. #sportsinkansas
