Have to say that I’m getting a little tired of all the whining about the other guy. Running the other guy down is not leadership. Why not actually lead? Why not spell out actual workable solutions and then let the voters choose the best instead of the least worst.
Leaders not rulers. Inspiration not orders. Vision not dogma. Courage not populism. We have it in us to do the right thing at the right time in the right way.
Living with the virus has shown us that there are a lot of kind, caring, generous, thoughtful and brave people in the world. Sadly, it has also shown us that there are an awful lot of morons out there too.
Civility - calm, polite, respectful, caring, thoughtful - that is something to strive for, even in these worrying times. It is not survival that is important - it is how you survive.
Sometimes it seems to me that we are sliding without noticing our own decline. How is it that after all this time we still allow bullies to be called leaders?
Is this democratic leadership? Is this thoughtful leadership? Is this inspiring leadership that we can be proud of and that unites us? Or is it something else?
$39,000,000 to reimburse Translink because LRT was trashed. $39,000,000 thrown away. How many homeless would $39,000,000 shelter? $70 from each and every man, woman and child in Surrey. And for what? So the people in Fleetwood can get out of Surrey faster?
When did bully politics somehow become OK? They are the politics of ego and conceit. If you have a good idea, explain it. Prove it. Don’t tell voters to shut up and do as they’re told. The arrogance would be hilarious if it weren’t so destructive.
@Stephanie4BC @Neuromotion_PT Whatever has gone before, things like this seem seem to me to be windows into the future, glimpses of what will be, not forgetting the past, but not trapped by it either. Next 1224 steps. And then 1225...
Pressure advocacy pressure advocacy. Part of the ecosystem of government. For me the issue is the lack of respect and lack of judgement demonstrated by the shuffle. When Trump doesn’t like the advice, he fires the advisor. We should be better in Canada.
@DianneWatts4BC I have yet to see any evidence at all that converting to a Surrey municipal police force would produce any better results than this or that we would all be safer because of it.
So in 2009 Canada lends $13.7 billion to GM + Chrysler to bail them out. Only $3.7 billion paid back so far. Now GM shuts Oshawa plant. Maybe GM should now pay back it’s share of the remaining $10 billion. Of course feds wrote off some of it last Spring. Coincidence?
In Surrey roughly 1 in 3 eligible voters voted. 110,000 voted to choose a mayor. 6 in 10 voters did not want the current mayor. There is no “overwhelming mandate” for anything. All sides need to work together for what’s really best for the whole City.
1883 people voted for the new mayor of White Rock. That’s 12% of eligible voters. One in eight. 70% of the actual voters did not want him to be mayor. And now he seems to claim a mandate to reconsider the planning and investment of years. What nonsense.
“Trust me,” they say when they cannot explain. As if we hadn’t learned the hollowness of that promise over all these years. Vote “no” in this referendum this time. Make them explain next time and make them do it right.
Change for change sake is the pathway of fools. Change with thoughtful purpose drives progress. Let’s see the plan. Let’s see the details. Let’s see the reason why.
We have the largest detachment in the world of the most sophisticated police force in Canada stationed in Surrey. I wonder where is the evidence that we would be safer with our own force. Has it worked in Abbotsford or Vancouver? Hope it’s not a vanity project without purpose.
