“Are you scouting the competition?”
That’s what somebody asked when they saw me visiting a nearby church.
“No,” I said.
“Our competition is brunch, the lake, the NFL, and a slow morning at home.”

While we sometimes carry around the spiritual equivalent of garlic breath (grumbling, gossip, and guilt), Jesus breathes out truth, justice, and life. His breath doesn’t repel—it redeems. It doesn’t stink—it sanctifies.
