It's my birthday! If you want to buy me a drink or meal for my birthday or send money as a gift, I'll be grateful for that. Here's some links to do that.

@SevNightingale LOL! Unfortunately, I was looking at various rust based cryptography libraries on GitHub and their websites (hosted on github pages). Looks like we need an IPFS based backup of GitHub.
This is incredible. The New York Times is complaining that "Americans invested billions in Chinese companies" and "now their money is stuck", giving TikTok as a salient example (where international investors, mostly Americans, own 60% of the capital)... omitting to mention the fact that it's entirely the fault of the U.S. government.
Last I checked it's not China that asked the US to put an ultimatum on TikTok: "sell yourself to us or get banned"...
It's the NYT's thing now, just like on Gaza: they'll report on the consequence of the deed but won't name the perpetrator, because it's inconvenient to do so.
@evacide I’d hate to see WWIII start over chips and TicTok. Build a better platform and compete in the free market like I thought capitalists believed in. Do they want tax revenue from advertising fees that bad? I know a few companies they could tax more. What am I missing?
The racism behind chatGPT that we aren't talking about...
This year, I learned that students use chatGPT because they believe it helps them sound more respectable. And I learned that it absolutely does not work. A thread. 🧵
Do you think consumers should have a Right To Repair the items they own?
Have the FTC create rules governing consumers’ rights to repair their own devices or have a contractor of their choice do so.
The FTC is taking comments til 2/2/24:

@brendanorrell From an article I read, those were actually Pyramid Lake Tribal Police. What people should take away is always get permission to do an action on Native lands.
“This is, for us, genocide.”
Keʻeaumoku Kapu headlines a rare piece in a sea of reporting about the Maui wildfires. @McKayJacqueline’s article in @CBCIndigenous examines it in relation to the erasure of Kānaka Maoli & Hawaiian land rights. A must read.

The build back of Lahaina, Maui is an opportunity for #LandBack to Native Hawaiians
And should not at all be an option for opportunists to do their continual landgrabbing

Really interesting piece in PNAS: Are #microplastics spreading infectious disease? One cited study in it shows that the expression of #AntiobioticResistance could increase due to microplastics. #plastic

@helioscomm And my favorite because of how hilariously awful our energy consumption becomes very quickly:
