Headline of Letter-to-the-Editor of Raleigh News & Observer after our press conference w/ Wake school bus drivers on front lawn of the #ncga: "I drove a garbage truck 39 years ago and made what NC school bus drivers do now."

Some good news for North Carolina charter school families worried about #coronavirus. Senate Bill 654 that was passed today would allows all schools, incl. charters, to provide remote instruction. Likely that Gov. Cooper will sign bill. #nced#ncpol#ncga https://t.co/WGIdtPnaJR

One week before fall classes start, @WCPSS
shows some 775 teaching vacancies. @CharMeckSchools
shows 350+ instructional vacancies. If NC pays and treats educators as professionals, fewer well-qualified teachers will leave the state or profession.

Children under 12 will not likely be vaccinated for COVID when students go back to school in the fall. NC's state budget should have an answer for that. And cutting corporate income tax rates to zero is not it. #ncga#ncpol#avl#avlnews#clt#cltnews#gso#ilm#nced#Red4EdNC
Students deserve a qualified teacher in every classroom. NC won't recruit / retain enough qualified teachers if they're forced to work 2nd jobs during the school year. NC Senate leaders want to raise educator pay 1.5% next year. #ncga#ncpol#clt#cltnews#avl#ilm#avlnews#gso
Capitol Broadcasting Co. Editorial:
"Leaders of the #NCGA are at a crossroads concerning the most significant issue that confronts the state... If they don't act, the governor will. It has happened before."

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has clarified guidance to reopen schools as safely and as soon as possible during this pandemic. CDC: "Physical distancing (at least 6 feet) should be maximized to the greatest extent possible." Our reaction is below:

“By the time we get to April, that will be what I would call open season,” Dr. Anthony Fauci says about the timeline for vaccination availability for all groups to begin getting shots.
Starting Feb. 24, Mandy Cohen says anyone who must work in-person in a North Carolina childcare or PreK-12 facility will be eligible to get COVID vaccine. This include school districts, charter schools, private schools, PreK centers, Head Start. #nced#ncpol#coronavirus
Thank you to Governor Cooper for prioritizing the vaccination of NC educators! # #ncpol#ncED#Shot4SafeReturn

@ncaehater@HattieMags@ncae And? And we won't correct spelling, but we will correct misconceptions. The pandemic health protocols (or "3 Ws") include a rule of 6-feet of social distancing. We need 6-feet. AND...NC's plan to fully reopen schools to 5 day/week in-person instruction does NOT GUARANTEE 6-feet.
