For the first time in 74 years, Washburn Rural is bringing home a state baseball championship.
The No. 5 seed in Class 6A capped off a remarkable postseason run with a 4-3 victory over Lawrence Free State in the state title game, finishing the season 21-8 overall.
Under head coach Jay Mastin, the Junior Blues battled through one of the toughest classifications in Kansas and saved their best baseball for May.
