Today at the #HungryForActionOK Conference, USDA’s Senior Policy Advisor Sakeenah Shabazz took part in a panel titled “Nourishing Oklahoma: The Power of Collaboration.” She was joined by a diverse group of OK partners including @HungerFreeOK, @CherokeeNation, and @MuscogeeNation.
Congratulations to Hunger Free OK for bringing together a fantastic Hungry for Action convening today. Chris Bernard tells us, "We need leaders who understand their role is to facilitate solutions..."
During a visit to Tulsa with @HungerFreeOK, USDA Senior Policy Advisor Sakeenah Shabazz checked-out #OasisFreshMarkets, a community grocery store working to eradicate food deserts. Oasis, a #DoubleUpOK and SUN Bucks retailer, served 2,161 #SUNMeals in their space this summer.

Oklahoma is rejecting #SummerEBT again. He is refusing to bring $50M of your tax dollars back to Oklahoma to feed more than 400k children this summer. Sad day when we put political talking points and ideologies ahead of feeding kids.
Ask Stitt for 2025 Summer EBT by Aug 15: https://t.co/tavN6Jy2hu. “403,000 children are eligible...and need Summer EBT...and it could channel approx. $48,360,000 in food resources,” said @jchrisbernard, HFO. Read more: https://t.co/ey4i1RoDlb. @TheOklahoman_#OKSEBT25#SummerEBT

Today is House Ag Cmte markup of the Farm Bill. The Farm Bill is critical, typically bipartisan, legislation that has huge implications for the food system in America. The bill includes 12 titles, including commodities, conservation, nutrition, credit, rural dev. and much more.
Excited to see more OK schools take advantage of this USDA funded opportunity. I expect more news like this due to a very wonky tech policy option the state took last year (and that @HungerFreeOK advocated for) that uses data to make it easier for schools to adopt this program.
