@kyenta_m@yeepoa@jaclynmacrae@moprentice@wendy_waters@JM_Whiteside@Dave_Eby Thanks for the pie chart info. It looks like a pretty accurate cross section of Van. Unless I’m missing something. The most populous SW, Central and NE have all the biggest schools. ~700 is still a good sample size. Not 5k+ but what have previous DPAC survey numbers been?
@yeepoa@kyenta_m@jaclynmacrae@moprentice@wendy_waters@JM_Whiteside@Dave_Eby But only parents concerned about their kids high school education would respond favourably to more f2f. Elementary is in good shape. And for the record f2f for me can be online or in class. They need to get to work and figure this out. 10.75 hours/wk is not enough for gr 8 & 9.
@yeepoa@jaclynmacrae@kyenta_m@moprentice@rothniven@wendy_waters@VSB39@JM_Whiteside Let alone they just gave themselves a raise in secret, two years retroactive, in the middle of a Pandemic. Blaming not enough $$ doesn’t carry water. Why not set a goal to have the best online learning in Canada. These pandemics are gonna keep coming. Gotta learn to live with it.
@kyenta_m@rothniven@yeepoa@wendy_waters@moprentice@VSB39@JM_Whiteside But that’s not the point really. We’re not qualified to teach and don’t have the time struggling to keep our business rolling. The onus and mandate is for the SB to deliver a quality education. We all have to learn how to deal with this pandemic. It’s a new reality for everybody.
@kyenta_m@rothniven@yeepoa@wendy_waters@moprentice@VSB39@JM_Whiteside Hard to say it is working for most when the only stat we have is from the DPAC survey that said 75% of parents and students want more f2f at school. I’ve got 3 and they’re all active soccer, track, enrolled in sailing and golf last summer which involves low physical interaction.
@yeepoa@rothniven@wendy_waters@moprentice@VSB39 It’s the 21st Century. Technology is readily available for the @VSB39 to make changes to improve. I listened to the Trustee meeting on Monday and not only was there a lack of interest to move with urgency there were trustees asking #whatissynchronous. Must do better than this!
@yeepoa@talasker@moprentice Yes 75% of respondents to the survey is significant. These are parents and students who want better. When is a @VSB39 survey considered significant enough? You must advocate for a better education for all students! SB’s seem to do this safely when they follow the PHA guidelines.
@yeepoa I am one of those parents asking that @vsb39 try to do more for our children. I am not white, upper middle class, well housed and we run our own business so we’re well aware we’re in a pandemic. Don’t see significant Outbreaks reported in N Van, W Van, Richmond or Burnaby?
