Graceful, solid stone buildings in a student section of Glasgow's West End. Could have sat there for hours working on the detail!

An old lock and hasp on a painted yellow door - weathered by the salt air in Montrose on Scotland's NE coast. So fun to squint and try to determine the not-so-obvious colours of things! I regularly see a variety of colours in grays . . . do you?

A favourite bookshop in Scotland . . . Leaky's Books in Inverness. A wee view from upstairs in the old (circa 1793) Gaelic Church on, Church Street near the heart of the town.

Aye indeed . . . national coffee day . . . whatever next?! Can't pass up the opportunity to share a velvety Cappu in my favourite wee tea/coffee shop in Inverness, Scotland: the cafe that was to be found up the winding stairs in Leakey's wonderful Bookshop!
A lovely late summer day on the Black Isle, north Scotland. Note the gray skies and still-green fields . . . definitely Scotland! The lovely church was used as a wonderful art gallery when I was there - hoping it's yet being maintained.

"Fisher at Dusk" 18" x 14" Acrylic on Canvas
The wee fishing village of Gourdon on Scotland's NE coast has been a great source of inspiration for me - just the right combination of light, salt air and old boats and buildings.

North central Washington oil study .... really beautiful soft colours in the rough terrain. I'd love to make some time to just wander there and paint . . . such beauty all around! - Private Collection

Chimneypots in Inverness. Something to add character to any structure, especially when graced by a gull or bucket :)) Just another of the many features of the UK landscape that I enjoy spotting when exploring!
charcoal sketch of a familiar sight in Edinburgh: footings of the Castle high atop Castle Rock in the distance with a bit of ornate and spooky kirkyard of St. Cuthbert's Cathedral in foreground. An interesting project of a watercolour! On my website, https://t.co/CIYLAvWjMa
Happy Monday! I think an art studio needs a few fluffballs parading around the grounds, and making funny clucking noises all day! It's so pleasant to have the girls' company - and the fresh eggs are a great side benefit!
A lovely backdrop of #fireweed and #gorse give some #colour to this #traditional scene of drying #fishnets in Cowie just up the beach from Stonehaven in NE Scotland. I can just feel the nip in the air! Does it feel like #autumn where you are?
The Plough Inn, Rosemarkie, Scotland
Pronounced 'plew,' this lovely establishment on the Black Isle across the bridge from Inverness is a former drovers' & travellers' inn, dating from the 17th century.

Shetland Musical Seascape!
As part of an exhibition celebrating Shetland music and culture quite a number of years back, Bonhoga Gallery in Weisdale, Shetland commissioned 60 instruments to be decorated by local artists . . . don't ask me HOW, as an outlander-what a privilege!!
The Sea!!
Looking at this painting makes me feel ten degrees cooler (it's near 100 in North Idaho today). Would't mind sitting on those rocks again feeling a bit of salt spray on the skin!

I seldom get a chance to finish a sketch, and this is no exception, but it gives enough of of a rough idea to get a painting going. Such a shame that this once impressive structure above the Beauly Firth on the Black Isle in northern Scotland is crumbling ...
What's your first impression here .... a weird cocoa puff sculpture in a tree??
It's actually a H U G E swarm of honeybees in one of my big pine trees. Interesting that they swarmed just before the incredible heat wave we're experiencing hit.
Fascinating to watch ....
Ahhh . . . summer in Stonehaven, Scotland! I'm here in North Idaho, experiencing 100+ F weather . . . looking at photos of past wanderings helps to keep cool!! That was certainly a lovely day to be just about anywhere by the sea!
