The power analysis of Wisconsin is pretty obvious: The collective power of the entire Democratic Party establishment was required to eke out a .4% victory over a wildly under-resourced socialist who had been abandoned by almost every national icon/power player of the American Left.

Make of that what you will. Use it as a mandate for your priors, fine. But those are the empirical facts of what actually happened. And everyone in politics knows it, even if the punditry will inevitably bury these basic facts in a flood of hot takes.

I had my political awakening in the late 1990s when I worked for @BernieSanders in the House. In that job at a young age, I learned that nothing transformative is possible unless both Republicans & their enabling corporate Democratic faction are overcome.

The factional battle inside the Dem Party is not a distraction. It’s part of the battle for a better world — a battle I’ve been on the frontlines of for more than most people in politics/media.

It feels like this battle could finally be culminating — and if so, it’s not a moment too soon. The crises are so huge that if there isn’t transformative change, it’s not clear our civilization is going to survive.

For me, it’s been nearly 30 years, which blows me away and makes me feel so old. Yes, it’s been nearly *three decades* in politics and in journalism working to combat oligarchy and hold power accountable, amid what has seemed like endless eyerolling, scoffing and blacklisting.

I’m no martyr or hero here, nor have I had any kind of perfect trajectory. I’m a (deeply!) imperfect person who just happens to have ended up being one of a relatively small group of folks who have been at this for this long.

And the thing is — this used to feel like a very lonely path, fraught with peril, persecution and punishment.

But today, for the first time I can remember, it suddenly feels far less lonely.

Maybe things are actually changing.
