@Benavidez_Gabe As the first PhD (but not first doctorate, and third-generation advanced degree holder) in my family, I think it would be *so* disingenuous to call myself first gen. That’s a whole different level of achievement and a deeply different experience.
@healthvermont Can you give any kind of update on why first vaccinations are happening so slowly (according to the Vaccine Dashboard)? It looks like most shots right now are second doses.
Laurel Zwissler bringing Melissa Willcox's "serious parody" to bear on The Satanic Temple in a paper on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Smart take on the Baphomet controversy in CAS. #aarsbl19#rpc
Just heard a paper on Good Omens' play on apocalyptic literature on the SBL side...now in an AAR presentation on marginalized religion in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. *So* want to hear the discussion we'd be having if these were on the same panel! #aarsbl19#sblbpc#rpc
Switching back and forth between simultaneous AAR and SBL popular culture panels. I really wish these weren't at the same time; they'd produce such interesting conversations across/between theoretical foci. #aarsbl19#sblbpc
One thing I miss as someone not studying texts is this type of insight into translation: Deborah as "woman of fire" rather than "wife of Lappidoth" #sblbpc
Like the book of Judges? What about #gameofthrones? Jennifer J. Williams is talking about Deborah & Melisandre in our Bible & Popular Culture session right now at #aarsbl2019#sblbpc
Thank you again to all who attended the #religioussounds workshop at #AARSBL19 and helped to make it such a success. A friendly reminder as people begin to check out and return home: please tip your hotel housekeeping staff!
@ProfessorIsIn Also truth: alt-ac, post-ac, non-ac, etc still maintain "academic" as the default, still marginalize other possibilities and ambitions. The room: whoa #aarsbl19
@ProfessorIsIn@ProfessorIsIn comparing the success-measuring hoops grad students and early-career academics jump through to the Hunger Games and it feels so true...
Meeting lots of great people today! Please forgive me if we re-meet later; I’m exceptionally bad with names and faces, but if I see your badge I’ll remember you.
