The winter fuel bung debate in the UK demonstrates everything that’s wrong with us as a country right now. In a nutshell we’d rather fork out billions on subsidising payments to a small proportion of the population so they can ‘pay’ for exorbitant energy costs.

That money goes to energy companies. Meanwhile no one is talking about why energy costs are high and how that money could be used to bring the costs down for everyone over the long term. And when we do- the first people most likely to object to new wind/solar/nuclear solutions are the very same people demanding the handouts.

We’re idiots. And our political class are cowards lacking any vision.
