AEA consultants are valued for their knowledge all across the state of Iowa and are prominent speakers and presenters across the country. The proposed bills in Iowa strip Iowa Schools of knowledge and those skills.
Use the Guidehouse report findings to investigate what other states are doing for specialized educational services that could benefit Iowa students. Use AEA and DE teams to see what about the states are different. Different oversight surely isn’t what impacts student achievement.
Did you know? The on-time graduation rate for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) has risen from 75% in 2012 to 83% in 2022. We are proud of our partnership with Iowa school districts to serve all students. #EveryDayatAEA#iaedchat
Thanks @globegazette for sharing an op-ed by #CRAEA's Dr. Mary Stevens & Amy Knupp! "Special education in Iowa is not about limitations; it's about empowering every child to become the best version of themselves."👏 #EveryDayAtAEA#iaedchat#ialegis https://t.co/5Wc7E46Sdy
@IAGovernor Lying with statistics: Test scores for Iowa students with disabilities skew lower because data reported includes scores from Des Moines students with disabilities. Yet, Des Moines Public School district doesn't use AEA services for their students with disabilities!
"We haven’t yet seen a plan that improves upon the system we already have in place. We need everyone to continue engaging and asking to learn more about what needs to be fixed — and how a new system will provide solutions that are not already available." https://t.co/iXuwTdvJ3C
AEAs are proud to partner with educators to meet their current and emerging needs. Students continually excel and overcome obstacles because of strong collaboration and partnerships between AEA employees and school staff. #EveryDayatAEA
Read the Iowa Code for yourself. Iowa’s AEAs were NEVER intended to be “Iowa Special Education Area Agencies” alone.
The code specifically calls out the provision of education services and media/technology as well.
All 3 are the core mission. #ialegis

There is no support for HSB 542. If there’s desire to improve AEA, then set a committee of parents, school bd members, teachers, superintendents, AEA staff, health care providers, community members, &legislators to study the system. Spend a year on it. No reason to rush. #ialegis
Watch this inspiring video from our colleagues at Central Rivers AEA to see what an impact AEAs have on students’ lives! We truly provide a comprehensive system of support for all learners!

Blizzard warning? Legislators can't convene again until Monday. Good time to send a message to them about how important AEA services are-ALL AEA services, which are the ones spelled out in Iowa Code 281: https://t.co/Un6tUHpXUU

AEA services=more than special ed. Iowa Admin Code shows AEAs are to provide services in educational content/media as well. Here's a video of how important they were to me in the classroom 20 years ago, and how important they still are now.

Make no mistake, Governor Reynolds plan for Iowa AEAs is essentially a death sentence for AEAs. The loss of jobs in rural Iowa would be devastating. Republican legislators need to stand up to the Governor and vote this bill down. Approve a study of the AEAs and delay action.
House Study Bill 542 proposes significant cuts to the Iowa AEA System. Get informed now about how those cuts may affect students, schools, and educators across Iowa. #SaveOurAEA
Just as Iowa classrooms have transformed over the past 50 years, so have our programs and services. The proposed bill aims to bring significant shifts to the education landscape; it's crucial to keep an eye on how it will impact our programs and services. https://t.co/v19WOMklXd
