I can’t believe no one has caught this yet…19 year high school football white hat here.
just watched the relay of that sequence. It is the difference in Oregon tying up the game. I’m going to get technical here but this is what I do on Thursday and Friday nights.
Oregon’s two point try from the three yard line ended at the one yard line. It is a running play so any penalty on the defense is enforced FROM THE END OF THE RUN. Inside the 5 yard line any defensive penalty would be half the distance to the goal line. The officials initially spotted the ball at the 1 1/2 - half the distance from the previous spot…the 3 yard line.
Lanning goes ape-shit, correctly, and the officials announce the penalty is enforced from the 1 yard line - half the distance would be, should be - the 1/2 yard line. CBS rules analyst, Gene Steratore agrees with the ball placement and penalty enforcement.
Here’s the deal….the ball never gets re-spotted to the 1/2 yard line. The play is run from the 1 1/2 yard line…Oregon comes up a foot short. I’ve watched it 10 times and I’m pretty sure I’m right and if I’m right there is going to be an absolute shit storm coming.
I really can’t believe I’m the first person seeing this…somebody really f-ed up.
See below - I’ve copied the tv feed from where the play was run from…It sure as shit looks like the 1 and a half to me.
