The Dutch people honor their World War II liberators by lighting candles on Christmas Eve at all the war graves.
At the ๐จ๐ฆ Canadian cemetery in Groesbeek, thanks to hundreds of volunteers, a candle has been lit at each of the 2619 graves, and will stay burning tomorrow.

Every Christmas Eve local school children come to Holten and Groesbeek Canadian Military Cemeteries in the Netherlands to light a candle in honour of each soldier laid to rest. The act is both humbling and beautiful and serves as reminder to be grateful for the peace we enjoy.
Once again on Christmas Eve in the Netherlands, school children laid candles at the graves of fallen Canadian soldiers in the Holten Canadian War Cemetery. Those soldiers gave their lives to help free the country in WWII and will never be forgotten.
