When AOC declared woke over and dismissively laughed that "Woke 1 was crazzzy", she was sending a calculated signal to the Leftist rank & file that "Woke" was now more of a political liability than a help and it was time to pivot from "its not happening" to "ok it was happening but it wasnt that bad, can we just move on now?"

The online hordes clearly understood the assignment, as the online space is full of ppl either dismissing Woke as "just some online kooks " and pretending not to understand what Woke even was (thus making discourse impossible).

They will adopt a "gotcha" strategy where they will demand to know on the spot exactly what was so bad about Woke and when you dont have an itemized list in bullet points at the ready, will dismiss your entire argument that Woke was bad.

So here I'm creating a thread so you can all bookmark it and use it anytime says "Woke wasnt that big a deal", "it was just online kooks", or "it was just about having empathy and being kind".

You will notice not one of the examples in this thread are "online kooks". Almost every single one is a major media company. Despite the catastrophic reputational loss of the last two decades, these companies are still very powerful and influential, and since most of the public still mindlessly outsources their thinking to the media, they play a key role in shaping public opinion. Whenever I say that homosexual acts are contrary to nature, somebody inevitably responds:

“But homosexuality occurs in the animal kingdom!”

Well, hold on.

First, animals do sometimes engage in stranger behavior. But people often read modern human categories back into animal behavior. An animal mounting another animal of the same sex doesn't necessarily mean that we have discovered a gay dog. Researchers distinguish temporary behavior from enduring sexual orientation or identity. Animal sexual behavior can involve dominance, social bonding, competition, excitement, mistaken identification, and all sorts of other things.

But there is a much bigger problem with the argument.

When Christians say something is “contrary to nature,” we do not mean, “This behavior has never occurred anywhere in the natural world.”

Lots of bizarre things occur in nature. Dogs eat poop. Some animals eat their young. Animals sometimes kill each other over mates. A male lion may force a female lion to mate. The fact that an animal does something doesn't tell you that a human being ought to do it.

“Natural” means according to the nature of the thing. What is it? What is it made for? What is the proper end, or telos, of its faculties?

And with human sexuality, the answer isn't exactly hidden. Men and women have complementary bodies. Male and female reproductive organs are ordered toward one another. Sexual intercourse is the kind of union that can produce children. Our very bodies testify to what sex is and what it is for.

That is what we mean when we say homosexual acts are contrary to nature. The argument isn't: “That it never occurs in the world.” The argument is:

“Look at what man and woman are.”

Nature isn't merely a catalogue of everything that happens. Nature tells us what a thing is, and from what a thing is we can discern what it is for.

The Anglo relationship to status is very unusual. Class is restraint, taste, generosity. Above all, class is a lack of concern about status. Only proles and new money show off.

Most cultures are the opposite. Status is loud. Status is gaudy. Status is about how much space you can take up, how much you can get away with imposing on others.

People from other cultures, especially economically successful people, who enter Anglo high-class environments have no idea how repulsive their way of expressing status is to their hosts. And of course, the Anglos are usually too polite to say anything about it. You simply won’t get invited to the next function. I think a lot of people who go through this perceive it as racism. And it is, insofar as race intersects with behavior/culture. But it’s not in the sense that they wrote you off just based on appearance or ancestry. In general, the Anglo is ready and even eager to see other peoples behave correctly. They’re very excited when it happens.

So the Bible uses a lot of metaphors for salvation. Ransom, running a race, fighting a fight. This language is biblical and we Orthodox use it. It isn't theories, and I kind of hate that word, because it implies a bunch of "possible" options and then one or a few may turn out to be true. It's atonement metaphors.

St Gregory the Theologian in his Second Paschal Oration (4th century), one of the greatest theologians of all time, says that if you take the ransom language literally, you get heresy. Satan doesn't have that kind of power, and God isn't holding us hostage. It's a metaphor that means what was needed to free us from death was provided. Similarly, imagine reading "run the race" as literal and assuming salvation is a competition. It's absurd to squeeze every possible literal detail out of the words in Scripture.

But the worst is "Penal Substitutionary Atonement" which says that justice = retributive punishment for sins, and thus God is obligated to be merciless, keep records of wrong, and relegates the heart to a secondary issue rather than primary. A person who cannot let any crime go without punishing someone is fundamentally not merciful. And letting guilty people go free because an innocent person volunteered to take their place is not justice. Justice is making things right, and God uses both retribution and mercy to make things right, and is not obligated to punish. (Justification of man means to make man how he should be.)

So what is ACTUALLY going on? A variety of things, not "theories" or even metaphors but a variety of real things.

1. Physical death is defeated. In the time of the Apostles, people weren't worried about going to Hell for breaking God's rules. The enemy that oppressed them was death, and the Gospel centered around Christ trampling down death by death. The Fathers talk of how much death pushed people towards sin, and so a major incentive for sin was defeated along with defeating death itself. And death was defeated by having it filled with Life Himself. Anyone who dies now goes to be with Christ and will be resurrected on the day of judgment. (Being with Christ doesn't mean you like being with Christ or are "saved.") So to know death was defeated was a powerful message.

2. Spiritual death can be defeated. All sin comes from distance from God. He is love itself, beauty, the logos, the source and standard of all that is good. If we distance ourselves from Him, we do what is "right in our own eyes" and eventually we die. The life of the Christian in the Church opens the door to begin living in a way that reflects God, and the sacraments in the Church open a way to actually unite with Him through that transformation. And the death happens through death to the self as Scripture says, through taking up your crosses daily. (If the Cross was a once-for-all payment it would be extremely offensive to say now WE have to take up our crosses. Wasn't Christ's work enough? It was, but we have to participate in it, we have to walk through the door now that it's open.)

3. Union with God is possible. It was already a powerful message to know death was conquered, and even more to know that with God's help, evil within us can be conquered. But a step even above all this was that man is built to be "partakers in the divine nature", that he was made to be even closer to God than husband and wife. This is the message of the Ascension and Pentecost after the Resurrection, that humanity has united with divinity. Part of how we come intimately close to anyone is to have knowledge of them, which is why sexual intercourse is called "knowing" in Scripture. It is by the Cross that we come to know the basis of who God is, that He bears all our sins (not as legal payment but literally we sinned against Him in His Passion), and most of all when, after so much evil has been unjustly done to Him, He looks at them and says "forgive them Father, they know not what they do." That is a revelation of the incredible heart of God, the same heart we all fail in, and it is only by comparing ourselves to that heart do we repent, and by seeking to have that heart (by God's grace) that we can become close to Him and become like Him.

Salvation is to be united with God, which comes through the defeat of physical death, the transformation of the heart into God's likeness, and above all, a deepening encounter with Him.

The clip of Dennis Prager alleging that animated child exploitation videos aren’t immoral has gone viral again, as part of a broader conversation on “Judeo-Christian ethics.”

Some have claimed that he’s a closeted pervert. That may be true, but he’s not unique.

He’s Jewish.

This is a teachable moment for Judeo-Christians to finally figure out that we do not, in fact, share a religion heritage, common worldview, or values.

Prager is just drawing from this Rabbinical ethical system and to Christians, it looks atrocious and evil. Which makes sense, because it is.

When Prager asked, “Who’s the victim?” about animated child exploitation films, he’s asking a Rabbinic question.

The Talmud is very clear that unless there is a person who can be paid restitution, it’s not a sin.

In Rabbinic Judaism, sin is transactional.

It’s not a sin because it’s unlike God, or because it offends God. It’s a sin only because there’s someone due a cash payment for quantifiable harm.

This is why Ketubot 11b doesn’t prescribe punishment for someone who molests a girl younger than 3, because “her hymen will grow back.”

No harm, no foul.

In Christian Ethics, something is sinful because it’s unlike God and offends his nature. But not in Rabbinic Judaism. Because Halakha requires a chavero - a specific person who was harmed and who can be repaid and can grant forgiveness before it can classify an act as a sin - it’s not technically immoral.

Rabbinic teaching withholds the label “sin” from bad thoughts, no matter how bad those thoughts are.

Tosefta Peah 1:4 states the rule as a direct maxim, “A good thought Hashem combines to action; a bad thought Hashem does not combine to action.”

This is exactly the opposite of Christian ethics, in which Jesus teaches that sin in the heart is just as much sin as sin in our actions (Matthew 5:27-28).

But Rabbis don’t study the Bible to learn more about God to become more like Him. They study the Scriptures to find loopholes in God’s Law, to learn how much they can get away with and the best way to evade consequences for their behavior.

You soak up everything you can find, and the more you learn, the more the world makes sense. Why nations fail, income inequality, crime rates, IQ, everything starts to click. You conclude that it must be the truth, or at the very least close to it. In the excitement of your discovery, you want to share it with everyone around you and explain how things actually work. You naively believe people want to know the truth. Once you start telling them, you are met with anger and denial. You’re confused, because you’re simply sharing knowledge that disproves their worldview, but the more you share, the more they resist and begin calling you names.
