Today I announced plans to end greyhound racing in New Zealand.

It was not an easy decision, but it is the right thing to do and is driven by the need to protect the welfare of the dogs.

The government is working with animal welfare organisations to ensure the dogs safety is a priority and are re-homed by August 2026.
