In 2024, the late former MI6 chief Sir Alex Younger delivered a warning Britain should have taken far more seriously:
“Putin would’ve been absolutely delighted by our decision [to leave the EU], and so would Xi.”
“We’ve made ourselves irrelevant.”
“France has effectively eclipsed us.”
“Brexit has marginalised us. It was kind of intended to do exactly that.”
Now @andyburnham says British authorities have confirmed that Russia interfered in the 2016 referendum.
Put those facts together.
Putin wanted a weaker, divided Europe. Brexit removed one of Europe’s strongest military and diplomatic powers, diminished Britain’s influence and left us more exposed in a world dominated by larger blocs. Russia did not merely welcome that outcome: it interfered in the democratic process that produced it.
Publish the intelligence assessment. Establish an independent inquiry. Follow the evidence wherever it leads.
Then secure our democracy properly before asking the British people to vote on our European future again.
🔥 This phenomenal article shows how European Movement UK are now laying out a 10-year path back into full EU membership.
All the stages, timings, complexities, and ratifications in place.
Could even be sooner if we get a lucky break.

Why do prominent figures on the British right want to be so dismissive of well-documented Russian interference in UK public life, democracy & elections? Could it be connected to the fact many are sympathetic to Putin, his gangster regime & anti-Western values?
Who benefited from Britain leaving the EU?
Who wanted Europeans divided?
Who interfered in our democracy?
I'm pleased Andy Burnham is putting Russian interference in Brexit on the record.
Europe needs to hear this.

In short order, Burnham has confirmed that #BrexitHasFailed and that #RussianInterference promoted the Referendum ‘win’ that foisted the disaster on us
Those now arguing that we have to keep on shooting ourselves in the feet need to realise that they are just Putin’s stooges…
The Brexit win was marginal. Fewer than 635k votes swung it on a divided total of 34 million. ANY interference must be judged successful therefore. It was no super majority. Even after all the bots, overspending, data misuse and Corbyn equivocation it was only just over the line!
We knew that Russia had interfered in the Brexit vote. We now need an investigation, a criminal one, of which people worked with Russia to enable the Leave win. They are criminals and traitors if they worked with Russia.
Surely everyone remembers @carolecadwalla exposure of Russian money in the Leave campaign
They know that Boris Johnson delayed the Russia report & refused to let it look for involvement in Brexit?
Nathan Gill, Russian spy & close associate of @Nigel_Farage ..anyone recall?
Andy Burnham is right to put Russian interference in Brexit on the record.
I've argued for years that Britain must tell our European friends what happened here, so they can recognise the same tactics.
