I had the opportunity to be involved in helping to create an abstract in my placement at UHS, looking at the relationship between parents and childrens physical activity levels in CF. This week, our poster was presented at the European CF Conference ๐๐ฝ @UoW_Physio
5th and final placement complete โ ๏ธ an amazing 6 weeks in stroke rehab. Finished on a high being voted therapy star of the week and getting some lovely feedback from patients. Next stop...starting work as a physio ๐ฅณ
Fantastic day at #MiNTUK2024 today with some truly inspirational talks. I particularly enjoyed hearing from people with lived experience. Feeling excited to start my career as a physio soon ๐ค๐ง ๐ฆพ
Calling UK Cricketers! ๐ข As part of my dissertation for my physio degree, I am looking for UK based cricketers between the ages of 18-70 years old, who are affiliated with a club to complete a quick 5-minute survey on their perceptions and knowledge of concussion.
Not sure where the time is going but placement 3 is complete! โ ๏ธ Loved my 8 weeks in the community split between an integrated care service and a frailty support team. So chuffed with my 91% too ๐ฅ
โข Study hard.
โข What others think of you is none of your business.
โข It's OK not to have all the answers.
โข Experiment, Fail, Learn and Repeat.
โข Knowledge comes from experience.
โข Imagination is important.
โข Do what interests you the most.
โข Stay curious
The challenges of being a mature student and starting over felt insurmountable at times. But I needed a change and to do something that made me want to jump out of bed every morning.
Life is to short to feel stuck.
You are never too old.
It is never too late.

It is also almost a year to the day I handed in my notice in my corporate comms role to study Physio. Nothing like a global pandemic and seeing your dad go through life altering surgery for head & neck cancer for the 2nd time for a healthy dose of perspective and time to reflect
First placement & first year complete @UoW_Physio โ ๏ธ the grades are a win but more importantly in just 4 weeks I have learnt so much, built connections, experienced loads of different settings/treatments & grown in confidence. Massive thank you to @HobbsRehab@LouisMartinelli
Podcast editing with a G&T and a sleepy dog ๐ถ #perfectsunday My little freelance podcast editing & social media management business giving me the flexibility I need whilst studying ๐ #maturestudent
Lessons from placement no.2: you can have all the knowledge of A&P and pathophysiology in the world, but if you don't have the communication skills and the ability to build rapport, with both PTs and colleagues you won't get very far. As a former comms manager I am bias though!
Lessons from placement: It is ok to not know something or get something wrong....no one knows everything anyway. The important part is taking the opportunity to learn from it. Ask questions, admit you don't know and do your research. Failure is a key part of the learning process!
