When I was on my mission I had a period of time where there was some confusion and frustration.
Many Elders around me were having lots of baptisms and they openly did not follow the mission rules.
I began to get discouraged.
I was trying my best to follow the rules and work as diligently as I could, but no success was coming.
I remember praying and asking God why this was. Why did the disobedient get to baptize and me who was trying to be obedient have none.
A distinct thought came to my mind one day after praying.
“They are baptizing because it gives them the experience of seeing someone else becoming converted to the Gospel. It gives their testimony a chance to be strengthened and their conversion to grow.
Baptizing is not what you need. You need to struggle right now. Are you going to still be obedient even if you don’t have success?”
It was both a difficult but then special experience.
The next transfer I got one of my favorite companions and we baptized 3 people that we had been teaching a long time.
I learned to never judge someone else by what blessings you perceive they are having or not having.
It’s still not easy, but I’ve seen the joy in it when I do it.
I know that the blessings God has for us will come as we are obedient. Some come now, some come later, and some come really later but they will always come.
What your children really want for dinner is you!
In an age of constant online connection, we may need to disconnect from technologies and other distractions to truly reconnect with our families.
Families grow stronger when they set aside these distractions and spend meaningful time together—learning eternal values like the importance of marriage and children, the purpose of life, and the true source of joy.
Parents also have a duty to teach their children practical knowledge apart from gospel principles. Families unite when they do meaningful things together. Happy family experiences strengthen family ties. Camping, sports activities, and other recreation are especially valuable for bonding families.
Some may say, “But we have no time for any of that.” To find time to do what is truly worthwhile, many parents will find that they can turn their families on if they all turn their technologies off.
What those we love need most is simply time with us. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is our ultimate role model. He will help us as we strive to build these family bonds.
“His invitation and His hand are extended right now, and all are included.
“But let us be clear, the Savior is not offering to walk with us on whatever path we are following. He's inviting us to walk with Him on His path.
“His path is the one, the only one, that leads to eternal happiness and eternal life.” - D. Todd Christofferson
30 years ago today this design by John Eaves was approved as the New Enterprise for the film First Contact. 30 days later we started the cutaway poster that was printed and sold on opening night around the world.
I'm not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because my parents were. They hardly ever attended Church before I turned 12.
I asked to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I believed it to be true.
Unlike my friends who were out-the-door and serving missions as soon as they turned 19, I waited until I gained a witness from the Holy Ghost that God wanted me to serve a mission. Once I received that witness, I was ready to go.
Fast forwarding to today...
I stay faithful as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because of the many manifestations I've received from God that it is His Son's Church. My miraculous witness of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon - Another Testament of Jesus Christ - would be enough, but God has sent me multiple witnesses of the truthfulness of His Son's Gospel.
I believe in the Law of Witnesses that says in the voice of 2 or 3 will God establish His will. Of every such aspect of the Church I've received 2, 3 and even more, in some cases, witnesses that it is true.
So, never give up on gaining your own testimony of the truthfulness of Christ's Gospel, His Doctrine, and the Plan of Salvation. I'll add this... Start with the Book of Mormon-Another Testament of Jesus Christ- because it is straightforward and when you discover that it is true, all else will fall into place. Make yourself worthy to received a witness from the Holy Ghost, because the Holy Ghost does not come to unclean temples.
Detroit’s RoboCop statue is finally here! Started as a 2011 joke (“Philly has Rocky, RoboCop would kick his butt”) and became a crowdfunded reality.
How cool is this?!
"I don't have words right now to express when I saw what you as a community have done and remembered us as a family in this situation."
The family of Thomas Jacob Sanford, the shooter who killed four people in an attack on a church in Michigan, says they’ve been overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they’ve received from the members of the faith their family member targeted.
