Seeing some people weirdly inserting this narrative like BIGBANG was just GD + his childhood circle, and some K-pop agencies casually swapping 1.5-gen trainees around

But the truth is:
1 & 2. GD and YB — the original YG family maknaes, a hip-hop duo from the start.
3. CSH — already well known as a notorious MC in the k hiphop underground scene at the time. The only one of GD’s childhood friends that YHS ACTUALLY approved.
4. KDS — the only BB member who entered YG through a regular trainee audition. (which means, among all those potential male trainee pool that auditioned YG during 1.5gen ~ 2gen, he's the only one that made it to debut)
5. LSH — personally scouted by YHS himself via a phone call after his appearance on Battle Shinhwa. The last to join, with only a couple months of trainee experience before the group debut documentary started filming.

Just from the lineup, you can see how meticulously YHS handpicked this group all the way up to the very last moment. YHS had more connections and a deeper grasp of the 1.5-2gen talent pool than anyone else as a ambitious executive (don't forget he literally negotiated with KJY’s family to get him to leave THE SM). And he rejected every kid who didn’t fit his vision, while didn’t miss a single one he truly wanted.

He WOULD gather information. He WOULD watch every survival show. If he needed you, he’d call you himself. You bet he would talk to your parents.

He had a crystal clear vision, which is YG first ever boy group need to be the elites of the elites.

If BIGBANG worked as 6 or 7 member goup, it would’ve been OT6 or OT7. If 4 member was enough, it would’ve been OT4.

But no. OT5 was the final call. And deep down, everyone in the industry knows: any other “what if” wouldn’t have made this group what it is. 20 years of greatness doesn’t come from just some careless mix-and-match.
