Hey @HSBC_UK . I have opted out of all forms of marketing from you, but you keep placing ads for cards and loans etc on the Accounts page of your banking app. Can I get these permanently turned off, please?
@rshotton@weegietiger69 Tesla have done the same with their cars. There is no engine under the bonnet, just additional storage space, so the design could have been way more radical. Instead, they kept the shape of their cars essentially the same as a combustion-engine saloon or hatchback.
@parkrunUK please share the data used to inform your decision to ban running with a dog on a waist harness. You quote a percentage, but actual numbers and some context (eg total of X incidents at Y Parkrun venues over Z weeks) would help us understand things more. #parkrun#dogs
@guardian The mini wind turbines at the O2 sound a great idea. But your diagram needs adjustment. It shows the turbine as being taller than a person. The article says they’re just 63cm (not even waist high). Suspect the turbines would be placed well above head height too.
Ad of the Day: Ikea's striking print ads highlight the benefits of sleep by comparing it to fad products that promise the same restorative results but rarely deliver https://t.co/FFstHu6oaH via @motherlondon
@rshotton Does this trigger loss aversion due to the limited opportunity offered by elections? I ask as my take from your book was it often works by outlining losses (eg "Lose £100 if you don't switch") rather than savings/gains. "Avoid America Being Crap Again" isn't so catchy, of course!
@DrCanapari Thought you might like to know how it went. Night 1 of CIO was horrible (5 long crying episodes, one of way over an hour). We thought a long haul lay ahead. But night 2, just one brief wake-up. Night 3 onwards = BLISS! Amazing outcome. Thanks again! #itsnevertoolatetosleeptrain
@DrCanapari we’ve been reading your incredibly helpful book and are just starting our second night of extinction CIO training. What should we do in the morning if our daughter starts a crying episode just before wake-up time?
@StefanWaterland @ggbourne @rshotton@davetrott VW wouldn’t have succeeded if they sold reliability head-on. The great ads I recall used the crap in people’s lives (divorce, losing at the casino) as an emotional counterpoint that sold reliability by association: “If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen”.
Spot-on observation by @Suzannepope – and a great video. Cue piano music annnnnnd... "Since [date], [Brand] has been there for you, and especially now, today, more than ever, in these challenging, unprecedented times, we can get through it together, as [Brand] is here to help."
According to @BBCNews we're all allowed out and about this weekend, as staying at home is 'not a request' being made by the government! (A quick change to "Staying home this weekend 'is an instruction', UK told" would avoid the dangerous ambiguity.) #StayHomeSaveLives
@rshotton@RobinWightUK Puts me in mind of the Starbucks siren logo, which when made perfectly symetrical was felt to be just *too* perfect (and even a bit creepy). So, the designers added a few wonky elements to make her feel human. https://t.co/WuMp71PbXP
@rshotton Yes, I rewrote them. Here's a further option that includes the 'Save lives' notion. I prefer my previous versions, however – I feel people may be more motivated by avoiding the virus themselves than by the less personal notion of saving lives. What do you think?
Smartly timed ads that suggest that buying a refurbished iphone, rather than a new one, leaves you money to spend elsewhere
