RIP to Double K of People Under the Stairs, a canonical L.A. rap group & one of the most underrated duos ever. If you ever saw the live show, you know.
If you're unfamiliar, here's a re-upped 2009 profile that I wrote in an unnamed local alt-weekly. https://t.co/8JGagQV6DE
#TablistWithSoul @ The VisionBombing HQ. No. 115: RIP Double K (People Under The Stairs).
Contains elements of “Youth Exploration” by People Under The Stairs.
My condolences to his family and love ones. All I can say is thank you for the music, rest in beats. #RIPDoubleK
People still think things are going back to the way they were before.
They are not.
People still think they can wait things out and won’t have to publicly pick a side.
You can not.
To that last point, I've shared this many times, but will share again in case folks on this thread are new to this idea:
“Abolition means not just the closing of prisons but the presence, instead, of vital systems of support that many communities lack.”

Father's Day is a good day to remind people that all phone calls and video calls for incarcerated people should be free in every prison and jail across the country. Not just during a pandemic, not just during holidays, not as a special privilege. But for everyone, all year round.
"BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF WE DEFUND THE POLICE?"
"Hi, Mr. Brooks. I'm w/ The Dept. of You OK? So, you OK? Looks like you fell asleep in your car. Lemme get you a ride home. I'll be by your home tomorrow to check on you. Here's my number. Looks like your ride's here. Good night, sir."
This is the #1 place people go and gentrigripe and complain about their neighbors instead of talking with them. Threaten to call police, conspire to close businesses because they don’t like the clientele. Get the entire hell out of here
*Activists and Legislators:* Here’s a thread of MEANINGFUL legislation that has been proposed and, in some cases, passed in cities and states to address police violence. Consider passing legislation like this in your community, too. (1/x)
President Trump saying, "When the looting starts, the shooting starts." 7 shot in Louisville, shots fired in Denver-all at peaceful protests for justice.
This is not dog-whistling. It's full-throated white supremacy.
To all my DJ homies, now is the time to polish your skills, make necessary edits and get that computer organized. To the EDM DJs, I guess practice jumping up and down on your kitchen table while your mom is at work.
