Congratulations to my student @JenelleMillison on receiving the best poster award at @UTSA@UTSAOUR UG research showcase. She did great research work on 3D hand pose estimation guided by human kinematic constraints.

#ThisIsWhatAScientistLooksLike Meet Jeff Dong ’23, a #UTSA honors student breaking barriers with cutting-edge research in computer science. His passion for tech and problem-solving are a few among many factors driving his success. Read his story here: https://t.co/tcUIGQP0A5
huge thanks again to @KevinDe62082850 for letting my team borrow the Azure Kinect from the lab for the weekend!

The best companion I could’ve ever asked for to grow up with; you’ll be in our hearts forever and always.
May you find peace, and thank you one last time for everything Max <3
It's an absolute honor and pleasure to be able to receive this award, so thank you 10x over to everyone who has given me this opportunity! It really does mean a lot to me :)
Congratulations to College of Science students for receiving the Dean’s Fund for Excellence Award. Outstanding students from COS departments received an award and medal. Jeff Dong, CS senior, was one of the recipients. Thank you COS for recognizing students academic success.
There isn’t even a one in a million chance that our Phantom Thieves could ever lose. 🔥

❗️MATH HACK❗️
whenever i forget the value of 8, my goto approximation is 987654321/123456789 :)
but if i need the value of 8 analytically, i stick with the easy-to-remember formula included below!
stay tuned next time for some more epic math hacks😎
happy pi day everyone!
to celebrate this year, i simulated taking 200 random walks to approximate pi (instead of walking around outside and touching grass) :)
happy 2's day everyone, and to celebrate here's my favorite 2-related fact:
in switzerland, trains are legally not allowed to have 2⁸ (or 256) axles! as the # of wheels is stored in 1 byte, having 256 axles would cause an overflow in the count and result in 0 axles "counted"
and as always, more info + my inspiration here :)
(all my code is on the 'ol github for the curious but warning: not very good)

so i tried generalizing hitomezashi stitching to the entire family of regular polygons,
...needless to say it doesn't look that good for any n-gon that doesn't create a regular tiling (but i tried my best)
+ here's a quick video about how i "defined" hitomezashi stitching to generalize to any regular n-gon
makes sense why it doesn't really look good for anything other than a triangle, square, or hexagon, but i figured this construction made the most sense
finally finished reading oyasumi punpun for the first time and can confirm i want to die on the inside 1,000 times over now
truly one of the most wonderful, dreadful, and powerful works of fiction i've had the pleasure of experiencing
