The schismatics are not the called women or the faithful queers or the ones who stand with them. The schismatics are the ones who say that their presence, their calling, and their holy witness are beyond the appropriate bounds of Christ's Church.
Tears of those being cast out of the churches they love > tears of those doing the casting out
Sending love and solidarity to dear siblings in the SBC, CRCNA, and beyond suffering the profound grief of exclusion when the Church should be a beacon of belonging and a place of hope
I attended a school that in culture and heritage Christian Reformed. Though they refuse any longer to acknowledge me, I honor them for how they shaped and formed me. What the CRCNA is saying to queer folks and our allies is horrible and unconscionable
Happy Asian American/Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month to all who celebrate, which is not many Americans at all.
I have really come to dread this month, which reminds me of how unseen, unheard, and undervalued AAPI people are in this country.
When asked to name a famous living Asian American, 26% of those surveyed said, "I don't know." The next most popular answer (12%) was Jackie Chan, who isn't American. Third (6%): Bruce Lee, who is dead.

One of the strange things about today's political cleavage around gender rights (and here, intersecting with racism) is how many of the proponents of traditional masculinity do not even follow their ideals. Let's look at how James dresses 🧵
To call the perpetrator a “deranged monster” is lazy. It distances us, as if to say she was not one of us and we are not like her. Except that she was formed by this culture of death, which too many of this country’s leaders and citizens perpetuate and even celebrate.
Capital punishment is a marker of a culture of death. School shootings are markers of a culture of death.
Doubling down on capital punishment will not solve the uniquely American problem of mass school shootings.
We need to consider an automatic death penalty for school shooters. Life in prison is not enough for the deranged monsters who go into our schools to kill innocent kids & educators.
Pray for all facing the unimaginable in Nashville. This is horrible & must stop.
Only a collective repudiation of our culture of death—including repenting of our obsession with guns, including acknowledging our inclination toward violence—will end this ongoing tragedy.
Again, from the website of Blackburn's own congregation (Christ Presbyterian): "We will take responsibility to care for all of God’s creation."
What a different world this could be if Christians simply lived out the mission, vision, and values they already claim to espouse.
Blackburn belongs to a PCA church—same denom as the school where today's murders happened. Among her own congregation's stated values: "We will seek to be good neighbors in every place, inside and outside of our homes."
What if being good neighbors means repentance on guns?
Chuck & I are heartbroken to hear about the shooting at Covenant School in Nashville.
My office is in contact with federal, state, & local officials, & we stand ready to assist.
Thank you to the first responders working on site. Please join us in prayer for those affected.
@tvrasche I'd be glad to, however is helpful. When I was trying to decide whether to attend seminary, I formed a discernment team to help with that process. They were a tremendous gift.
