Nonfiction read-alouds are essential for knowledge building in the early years. Instead of choosing books based on comprehension “strategies” @natwexler suggests teachers stick to a theme for 2-3 weeks to allow for lots of repetition of vocab & content. Next for us: dinosaurs!

😠Don't mess with the Oak Ridges Moraine. @fordnation If we start paving over (capping) the Moraine it can't replenish the aquifers. The Legislation for it + the Greenbelt were science based decisions, not economic. 250,000+ depend on the well water. 25+ rivers flow from here.

Reading aloud doesn't teach kids to love reading. It teaches them to love books, stories, learning things, the intimacy of being read to...all that is wonderful, but it's not a love of *reading*.
If you want children to love reading, you have to teach them how to do it well.
