Thanks Emil for sharing this, this was a great memory! I'm still thankful to @BCRadSoc for the opportunity to go, and besides from an excellent experience with good people, it made a lasting impression on me for the work @CARadiologists and @BCRadSoc do behind the scenes.
I'll take the Canadian angle on this. A tweet isn't enough to do justice on why medical students should be excited for the future of radiology. Open invitation to @ and DM me too if you're a Canadian med student thinking about #radiology
#MedStudentTwitter - considering radiology and worried you won't have a job? Stop worrying. When #MRI was discovered, some thought #radiologists would be unnecessary. #AI is our next new modality; you'll not only have a job, but a fulfilling one. DM me if you'd like to chat more!
What are serendipity and unintended consequences currently with #AI in #radiology? It's tempering superficial hype with a nuanced look at new tech while keeping our excitement for innovation. Think twice about "Move fast and break things" with loved ones' lives at stake. #SIIM21
When I saw @BFlanksteak's keynote Sam Dwyer lecture at #SIIM21 would be on "Serendipity and Unknown Consequences" and had no idea what it meant, knowing Adam, I knew we'd be in for a treat.
2/2 Coaching and counseling is not only for crises. We're first and foremost knowledge workers; even if you're in a good place mentally, exploring ways to try improving our mental performance is always worthwhile. Would you leave covered dental or massage benefits on the table?
1/2 I've been thinking a lot about this recently. For Canadians: there's negotiated benefits for physicians and funded programs for residents and students for mental health resources like counselling; I can only imagine there are similar programs out there! #SIIM21
@AnjumA_Agfa tells us some of the common questions that come up (and good questions for anyone to ask) when looking at clinical AI applications. #SIIM21
@fsaintclair@dcmsys@towbinaj Thank you for the presentation! As a clinical radiologist without a CS background, I appreciate you framing things for a technical, but general audience!
Thank goodness for VODs, @towbinaj and Florent Saint-Clair from @dcmsys both have excellent sessions right now on challenges of AI Adoption and Deployment in Enterprise Imaging, and Using Technology to Differentiate Your Health System (respectively). #SIIM21
Fellow Canadian @AnjumA_Agfa reminds us of a key challenge with AI in radiology- a lot of what I'm seeing right now is very silo'ed, very specific use cases. Integration and generalization with interoperability will be key to widespread clinical adoption. #SIIM21
@MerelHuisman @HalWolfIII https://t.co/R5mM8T4Eyv
I always think of this scene from Elysium when talking about AI vs patient/people centered #healthcare (as opposed to AI augmenting people centered care). @towbinaj
This is just high yield after high yield point that I could see applying to anyone in any practice thinking about implementing AI. @ChrisRothMD keeps it real and practical. #SIIM21
More discussion on the "less sexy", but likely even higher value use cases for AI outside of image analysis in the chat on "AI - Who Should (And Will) Pay For It?" #NLP#SIIM21
@KarenHolzberger makes the excellent point at #SIIM21 that no one is going to pay for #ArtificialIntelligence just because it's AI; stakeholders will pay for AI-enabled technologies if they bring benefits (efficiency, quality, capability) just as for other medical products.
Fascinating keynote by @JMRothberg, the definition of a disruptor with companies like Butterfly IQ and Hyperfine. Great high level presentation, I'd love to see more nitty gritty behind the scenes- how do you create a company and technology like that from a blank slate? #SIIM21
@DonKDennison@judywawira@ntenenz@quantrad@walterfwiggins & Peter Chang, that was an incredibly thought provoking discussion on second order disruptive effects of AI on radiology. I would love to see a follow up discussion on "so what can we do about it?" #SIIM21
Great exchange in the "How AI Will Disrupt the Status Quo in Ways You Haven't Thought Of" comments. Healthcare is not an industry where we can blindly accept "Move Fast and Break Things", when the "things" are peoples' lives at stake. #SIIM21
