Wow… I think it’s one of the most revealing interviews #RufusSewell has given about Hal Wyler because it strips the easy interpretation that Hal is simply manipulative or power-hungry. Instead, he presents him as someone whose ambition is inseparable from his devotion to Kate. That doesn’t make Hal morally innocent, but it makes him emotionally complicated. #TheDiplomat
One part that stood out for me (there were a few more) in this interview is the way Sewell describes why Hal and Kate remain one of television’s most compelling relationships: “There’s a spark between them… manifested in hatred, frustration, love, lust or humor.” I think that’s exactly what makes them feel real.
Overall, Sewell understands Hal better than almost anyone. He doesn’t excuse Hal’s flaws or portray him as a misunderstood hero. Instead, he paints the portrait of a man who loves deeply, thinks strategically, believes he can solve impossible problems and whose greatest strength…his willingness to do what no one else dares, is also his greatest flaw. That’s what makes Hal Wyler interesting: he’s capable of immense generosity and immense damage, often in the very same decision.
Rufus Sewell, you nailed it. What a man❤️
@felicityptr The only reason of his over-protective and tolerance is that he remebers her every wound which something he had given her. She is hard to move on.
They keep saying their marriage is over, but the second one of them is hurting, they run straight back hugging, kissing, finding comfort in each other like nobody else could. They’re just two idiots blinded by pride and ego. They will NEVER be able to let each other go 😌
Keri Russell and Deborah Cahn’s work on The Diplomat is fascinating in the way it portrays professional women.
There’s a level of observation in what they’re doing that goes beyond awards. It’s about women occupying positions of power in spaces historically dominated by men.
i don’t care if it’s a sympathy emmy, i don’t care if it’s a payola emmy, I DONT CARE. I just want my girl keri russell to get her flowers for decades of insane work in television
"Ele dá uma chance, sempre, e tenta resgatar o que restou.
Ela sempre fala do passado e ele nunca quer tocar no assunto, ela tem o peito magoado e ele é o culpado.
Ela também já sofreu por ele, e ela sabe o mal que fez pra ele.
Mas ela completa o mundo dele e ele o dela." 🫴🏼✨️
