@ira_joseph Your reply is why I’m not particularly convinced about the climate benefits of e-bikes. I think they are more likely to displace analog bikes, walking, or public transit use, but not driving. But I welcome a study to prove me wrong.
@ira_joseph Not demand side per se, but I would happily exchange new pipe & lng export capacity for zero methane leaks or flaring. Throwing away perfectly fine gas in a tight market (w/ ghg implications) is beyond me.

He highlights an excellent point, that after all this time we still default to thinking of gas and coal in generation terms, but solar and wind in capacity terms. As storage grows, payback periods start to end…expect more focus on that $0/MWh renewable gen estimate
I've been tracking the price of sunlight and wind throughout the pandemic, war and supply shocks
Latest update - the price has spiked dramatically to $0, up from its previous high of $0 last month but significantly down from the 5 year maximum of a whopping $0 in early 2021.
A key difference between #carbon and other commodities: yes, fundamentals, net short/long, cost curves matter. But #EUA prices still reflect how much people care about a specific policy (i.e., climate) in any day, week, month. In a time of war -- maybe not so much. #OCTT
How can coal-gas switching set #EUA prices when the gas comes with a humanitarian premium?
How can you be sure an Article29a intervention won't happen when consumer wallets are already hurting and will certainly hurt more?
These are the questions for 2022. #OCTT
EU climate policy is based on:
- a degree of geopolitical stability
- access to nat gas, at least in the near-term.
The former has been upended; the latter now has massive strings attached.
Throw all prior #EUETS policy and price views out the window for now. #OCTT
