Two tax questions will be on our Colorado ballot. Here is how I am voting.

I am voting NO on Initiative 195.

Colorado has one income tax rate of 4.4 percent. Initiative 195 would replace it with six different rates. The highest rate would be 8.4 percent.

Supporters say 97 percent of Coloradans would get a tax cut. That is true, but most people would save only a few dollars to a few hundred dollars each year. In return, the state would collect about $2 billion more every year.

This tax would also hit businesses, estates, trusts, and some small business owners. The tax brackets do not change with inflation. That means more people could be pushed into the higher rates over time.

I am voting YES on Initiative 232.

Initiative 232 would keep Colorado’s income tax rate from going above 4.4 percent. It keeps our taxes simple and stops the state from raising the rate without changing the law again.

I will not trade away a permanent taxpayer protection to save a couple hundred dollars today. Colorado does not have a money problem. Colorado has a spending problem.

NO on 195.

YES on 232.

They finally folded.

Riley Gaines says she’s “beyond thrilled” that her lawsuit against the NCAA has been settled after more than four years.

Gaines will receive an undisclosed amount in punitive damages and have her name restored as the sole finisher in her place in the 2000M freestyle.

“They finally did the right thing,” Gaines told supporters at a rally outside the courthouse. “And I promise to use this settlement to further the cause of keeping women’s sports safe for women.”

The NCAA hasn’t returned a request for comment.
