@Mikiashvili_M@armokingt With the disctinction that Georgian Dream claims to be the sole "pro-Georgian" party, while not stating anymore they are pro-European - and framing the pro-European opposition as foreign agents and enemies of Georgianness.
@Mikiashvili_M@The_Davos_Man Hah, every day "what are we going to eat". Not in admiration by the way of those who make a tight schedule in the weekend for the week ahead.
"Neutrality" declarations or aspirations in Russia's near abroad, specifically in relation to EU and/or NATO, are nothing else than a wink of loyalty to Russia.
They do not reduce Russian pressure, they simply mean more compliance is demanded and enforced.
Can neutrality guarantee security?
The experiences of Ukraine and Moldova show that formal neutrality doesn't prevent occupation or sovereignty violations.
A timely reflection by #DSG on what this means for #Georgia’s strategic future. 👇

@Mikiashvili_M@economyarm Yes, it could. It depends where the money has settled. But admittedly, this is navigating in the dark about the true cause of this gap. I find it hard to believe.
@Mikiashvili_M@economyarm As others said, the Armenian number might be inflated by Russian immigrants. Due to smaller population in Armenia there is a higher weight by them. It is hard to see that Armenians truly have such a higher average income.
First sentence in Georgia under the amended protest-code for "blocking a road": nine months prison.
The sentenced already spent seven months in pretrial detention (!). Allegedly being a danger to society, according to authorities.

The latter is not just a minor point. It is in fact in the center of things.
I have yet to witness Georgian Dream and its leaders admit they are at fault for smth or have played a key rol in derailing certain things, whichever they are. It is always someone / something else.
Such a thing should start with recognizing ones own role in the "dysfunctional" relationship in recent years, that even led to a sense of hostility.
If the Georgian government wants to project a sense of leadership it should be willing to admit its own faults.
Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday expressed his hope for a “reset” in relations between Georgia and Ukraine, emphasising the deep-rooted friendship and solidarity between the two nations despite recent diplomatic strains

At the moment goods have to travel through third countries. Export products in Turkey destined for Armenia were not allowed to be labeled with destination Armenia.
All this will change, and direct transport links are expected to reopen anytime.
After many years, things are on the move between Turkey and Armenia. Turkey allows bilateral trade, which is considered a ramp towards reopening the borders.

Good observation. Ilia II was inherited from a completely different time, who dealt with the whole political range from Soviet-era to now, and all the developments and transformations, hence the trust in him by society.
Shio III will be seen as a regime client.
Patriarch Ilia II personally carried the lion’s share of the Church of Georgia’s popularity and prestige, and he was personally almost beyond criticism even as grievances towards the Church accumulated.
As prominent Georgian expert Ghia Nodia notes, the new Patriarch, Shio III, will carry the shadow of being “supported by the authorities and Russia, and the two are the same for many people.”
Many expect the Church’s influence to shrink as it cooperates more openly with the regime and can no longer rely on anyone’s overpowering authority.
In fact, afterwards Papuashvili went on his weekly compulsory anti-EU rant, despising everything about Europe Day or its participants.
A day after he washes his hands by saying that the rhetoric coming from the EU should be less hostile for relations to mend.
Georgian Dream clearly shows its preferential orientation on days like these.
Laying a wrath is of course completely logical, albeit it remains a Soviet date. However, the thing is the company they chose/allow, while also not joining afterwards the Europe Day fest.
Georgian Dream one party Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Tbilisi Mayor and Georgian Dream Secretary General Kakha Kaladze laid wreath in honor of 81th anniversary of ending the WWII on May 9th. Present were and wreath was also laid by Russian diplomats form the Russian interests section of the Swiss Embassy as well as Belarusian diplomats form the Embassy of Belarus
This was "radical opposition" and - of course - "the media" ("foreign sponsored" media supporting "radical opposition").
GD refused to take responsibility for their role. This is common practice by GD, waiving any responsibility while being in the driver seat.
Sorry for reposts of Imedi - but this is vivid example of Georgian Dream cynically spinning everything around. The irony of things.
Whoever they blame, they basically talk about themselves.
It is GD that systematically "creates an enemy image of EU", with Papuashvili up front.
Georgian Parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Sunday called on European Union officials to carefully reflect on his recent letter, emphasising that a shift in rhetoric is essential for the benefit of both the EU and bilateral relations.
Speaking to Georgian journalists in Slovakia, Papuashvili welcomed reports that EU ambassador Paweł Herczyński had forwarded his letter to Brussels. He urged the EU to abandon what he described as “aggressive rhetoric” and “hostile resolutions” directed at Georgia.
“My advice would be for them to diligently read this letter and understand its contents. This will, first and foremost, benefit the EU itself and our bilateral relations. The harmful policy driven by a political agenda must end, as it contradicts the ideals of the Schuman Declaration”, the speaker said.

Papuashvili performs typical victim blaming. He demands "reflection". Fine.
Back in the days when "addressing polarisation" was part of the dialogue for EU candidacy, Papuashvili refused to reflect himself on the role of GD and government in the inflamatory & polarized climate.
