At the age of 18, Martina Navratilova defected from communist Czechoslovakia while she was playing in the 1975 US Open to be able to play as a free woman. She sacrificed her citizenship and seeing her homeland and her family for many years.
Then in 1981, Martina became one of the first openly gay professional athletes. She sacrificed millions in endorsements, which she knew she would when she came out.
59 grand slam titles that included 9 Wimbledon titles. Few people in this world have ice running through their veins the way Martina does.
And now Martina is defending Sophie Cunningham against the New York Times / WNBA media.
They are in the wrong for this ridiculous hit piece against Sophie today (and the inevitable hit pieces coming to try to push Sophie out of the WNBA).
IS THIS A JOKE. IS THIS A JOKE. ARE YOU KIDDJNG ME. SORRY I DIDNT START MY CREDIT 26 YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS T W O. SORRY I DIDNT OPEN A CREDIT CARD AT TWO YEARS OLD WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT OH MY GOD
seeing your age group having the best time of their lives while you’re at your lowest trying to figures things out - is another type of pain no one talks about.
If someone is too drunk to drive and chooses to sleep in their parked car instead of getting on the road, I don’t understand why that can still result in a DUI in some places. You stayed off the road. You didn’t put anyone in danger. Punishing someone for choosing not to drive feels like the wrong message.
@kauljade I'm pretty sure "learn to be happy on your own before you seek out a partner" is an engineered psyop to keep people lonely and/or make them kill themselves
there are reprehensible and disgusting people in this world who’ve never had to question for a second whether they’re loved or wanted. so if it were just, that wouldn’t be the case. doing everything right or changing yourself doesn’t always shift your chances.
one of my most family-oriented friends got out of a 4-year engagement last spring. said she wanted kids before 35. she was back on the apps within days.
matched with a guy who seemed serious. 3 months of consistent daily texting. met his parents in month 2. 1 week later, he ghosted her. no explanation. just stopped replying.
she spiraled and asked me many times whether that's just how men are these days, then decided to “just have fun for once.”
now she’s 6 months into casually seeing 5 different men. none of them know abt each other. she says she’s never been happier “not needing anything from anyone.” she feels free, etc.
once again I watched modern dating culture take a woman who wanted a family, punished her for wanting it, then slowly convince her that wanting nothing is the same as being happy.
every time im reminded that all of my closest friends have someone they care about more than me i have to fight off the urge to cut everyone off,,, and i thought it would get better with age but its not
this why i hate when people tell me that i should “sit with my anxiety, don’t fight it, and let it pass” well guess what bitch it doesn’t ever pass so what now
