Uganda cannot afford a bloated Parliament of over 500 MPs for a population of 45-50 million. The Old Man of the Clan, @AndrewMwenda, is right: we must drastically reduce the number of MPs ideally to one per district (around 146) plus targeted women representatives to slash wasteful expenditure on salaries, allowances, cars, and perks.
This money should fund real priorities like healthcare (malaria kills dozens daily), roads, education, and security. A leaner @Parliament_Ug would improve deliberation, reduce patronage politics, and force MPs to focus on national issues rather than hyper-local demands.
Oversized legislatures burden taxpayers without delivering proportional results. It’s time for serious reform, fiscal responsibility and better governance demand it. Thank you
