This #TxLege special session, @mayes_middleton's SB-12 would silence the advocacy efforts of #RuralTX and #RuralEd.
This bill has been described as “banning taxpayer-funded lobbying,” but it’s really about gutting #TxEd’s voice, particularly in Rural TX.
A #TxLege 🧵.

Proud of my dad. He waited after midnight to testify. If you know him, you know he wouldn’t disappoint ! He met the moment as he always does. Call your local rep today! #skunk#Accountability#notconservative
Paul Colbert, a former Texas House member and education budget chair - and maybe one of the few people in Texas who truly understand school finance —testified at the House Public Ed committee on Thursday. Colbert blew apart the narrative being pushed by Gov Abbott and @TPPF that schools have gotten an increase in funding.
“Traditional ISDs have not received an increase in state funding from actual state revenue sources for over a decade. The modest increases seen in recent years have primarily served as tax relief rather than new investment in education.”
Watch the entire video and it’s quite eye opening.

Let’s set the record straight! Texas public schools serve ALL students, and it’s up to us to use our voices to advocate for them.
These are some of the most common myths spread about our public school system—don’t let misinformation take the lead. ⬇️

What happened between Jan. 29 and Feb. 7 that each of these rural #TxEd school districts had their state funding *instantaneously* cut by $550K, $750K, $900K, & $2.7M?!
