One of the cruelest things about Autistic/ADHD masking is that you learn to treat positive emotions as a warning sign that you're about to do something "wrong" and that it is therefore "safest for everyone" if you maintain a constant, low-key negative internal emotional state.
As a librarian, I've been reading all week about the people checking out all the books on Pride displays to keep them from other people or "losing" the books or hiding them somewhere else and every day the world has felt even heavier than it usually does. But yesterday 1/5
And that was it. And my heart exploded. I know it wasn't deep and it happened in a couple of seconds and it fixed literally nothing, but it felt like a tiny light I could carry. So I'm sharing the tiny light with you. 5/5
Kid: Oooh rainbows! What's that say?
Mom: (reads the name of the kid who made it) It looks like they made it because it's rainbow month.
Kid: Yeah!
Mom: Remember how the rainbow means everybody can be proud of who they are?
Kid: Oh yeah!
