@clhubes I love the idea of “if you must bring a gift, please bring a book. It will be donated to (school of choice) so that all children can share in the gift of reading”. It’s great because often children often “outgrow” books. Gives them a second life!

@Calaveraa96 Merida is one of the safest states (highly recommend visiting!). The cartel extended family lives there and it’s a safe zone essentially. Oaxaca is safe. Mexico City is safe in the center neighborhoods. I spent two months down in MX recently and felt safer than in the US.
