Invasive species are a challenge and it is great to get the chance to spread the word by filming with BBC Landward this week. Here I am showing the presenter, Dougie, the fascinating world of invasive bryozoans.
@KentishHack @PPEinPPE@BandQ@Screwfix Good tip! Can’t help feeling we should be able to buy as easily as the fellas do though. Women in trade professions are increasing, and we should all support that. Time for these big suppliers to catch up!
Women’s toes matter too!! Today I tried to find workboots. @BandQ and @Screwfix had dozens of pairs of awesome rufty tufty, warm, steel toe capped boots. Not one pair available in store smaller than UK7. Only option - black trainers & pink laces... Really?? 😡😡 #everydaysexism
Fancy some #seaweedcrisps ? I spent a fun afternoon recently with @monicawilde learning about #winterforaging in #Scotland - read all about it in a piece I wrote for @topsanteuk magazine: https://t.co/QCb8GN43rn
Do you ever wonder what drives the mysterious creature that is a university academic? Why are industry / uni collaborations so hard sometimes? I’m a co-author on a new journal article published today which aims to demystify academics for industry. https://t.co/yqLn5XuWd6
It was great to collaborate with @jenloxton on this, combining our extensive NNS data from around the English and Welsh coasts with hers from Scotland.
Great interview about invasive bryzoans. Brilliant #scicomm by @jenloxton describing colonies as bright orange and crisp-sized. Invasive species can be troublesome for native spp but lots of brilliant work and monitoring being done by scientists around the UK to limit the impact!
The Sunday Times is featuring an article today written by @HortonJulia and based on some of my invasive species research - check it out 😀. https://t.co/e8TiSjGxaN
Congrats to @jenloxton (@GeoSciencesEd) on her new paper out in #ZooKeys_Journal: A checklist of marine bryozoan taxa in Scottish sea regions https://t.co/RvoZpMgiSM
So when not “marine sciencing” I put my experimental tendencies into finding delicious wild flavours and making tasty concoctions... and G&Ts of course, lots of G&Ts. Vic (a fellow scientist) and I are tweeting about these forays here @EdibleHedgerow hope you’ll follow us 😀🍸
