@LemanSaunders@AMBS_Kernan Hal Chase was “suspended indefinitely” multiple times by multiple people and still got to play ball year after year. He was even involved with the “Black Sox Scandal” and didn’t manage to get on Landis’s list post-edict. His career was practically over by then anyway but still.
@AMBS_Kernan It’s up to the hall, and the historical committee, to get his name on the ballot—something I’ve been working on since 2009. I’d be happy to link up with you on this project if you’d be interested!
@AMBS_Kernan The Hall of Fame refuses to make him eligible. And they refuse to provide a reason why. The speculation is “once we let Jackson in, we’ll have to let Rose in,” which, I agree with you, apples and oranges and I’m not getting into that debate.
But overall, Jackson IS eligible.
@stevestone@barstoolWSD The players have to play with more on their minds than just the trophy. Games are rushed into double headers when you could normally schedule a makeup later in the season. That being said, the fans have been sitting on their couches for months... they want to act normal.
@stevestone@barstoolWSD Unfortunately, not everyone loves baseball the same way we do, Steve. Some people love the team more than the game, some love winning more than playing. I’m with you, I’m just happy to have baseball back and I don’t expect a normal season this year. I don’t think anyone should.
I had hoped by this point I wouldn’t need a petition to get Joe Jackson eligible for the Hall of Fame, but even with the MLB’s official stance being that he’s not on any “banned players” list, the Hall has decided to maintain his ineligibility status.

Whether this brings Jackson to the Hall of Fame or not, I’ll never give up on my quest. I’m doing this for Joe, not for me, and that makes everything I’m doing—all the sacrifices and changes—worth it.
I have felt inspired, exhausted, motivated, drained, and so much more. Some days I’m a climbing ram that just won’t quit. Other days It takes everything in me not to get blown off the mountain. But something about this project has stuck with me all these years.
@robertamberg @shoelessmuseum@JeffPassan@JonHeyman There is a movie in the works! I’m in touch with the people involved in production of it. They hope to have it come out in the next couple years— however, with the committee meeting so soon, and there won’t be another chance to vote him in until 2030, it won’t have much affect
I remember talking with @JeffPassan and @JonHeyman about this at the Winter Meetings. Both sounded surprised to learn of MLB’s stance on banned players’ ineligibility ending with their death. I’m glad it’s finally out there.

I’ll write a piece tonight on what this means for Shoeless Joe Jackson and other banned players as the Early Baseball Era Committee meets this year for selecting who’s on the ballot. Voting is on the Sunday of the Winter Meetings in 2020, and induction will be in 2021.
