one of the most fascinating (and bleak) aspects of society in 2026 is the outright dismissal of retail & service jobs as illegitimate, even though every single one of us relies on these workers every single day. mind boggling.
She lost her son, and then the state told her she had killed him, and then it put her in a cell to die for it.
Her nine-month-old son stopped breathing. She ran to a neighbour, tried CPR the way she had seen it done, and drove him to the hospital.
He died. Mississippi charged her with his murder and sentenced her to death. She was eighteen.
Sabrina Butler. The bruising on the baby's body was from her attempts to resuscitate him. The prosecution presented it as a beating.
No one told her she had the right to remain silent in any way she understood. She gave a statement trying to explain what she had done, and it was used against her.
Her trial lasted a matter of days. The jury took less than an hour. She was sent to death row at nineteen, pregnant with her second child, and gave birth in custody.
The Mississippi Supreme Court overturned the conviction in 1992.
At the retrial in 1995, medical evidence showed the child had died of a kidney condition — a documented illness, not an injury. She was acquitted in about twenty minutes.
Sabrina Butler is the first woman in the United States ever exonerated from death row. Mississippi has never compensated her.
She now speaks publicly against the death penalty. She has said the hardest part was never the cell. It was that for five years nobody would let her grieve.
Sabrina Butler’s case is the kind of buried injustice that helped inspire our Ebook, 150 Crimes Against Black America They Never Answered For—because some of our stories leave questions that still deserve answers.

Josh was arrested at 18 and has been in jail for 12 years… for allegedly setting a trash can on fire during the Ferguson uprisings. He is finally being released in November. Please donate to the fundraiser to support his transition 🙏🏽
I’d argue that private equity is even more guilty than Amazon. Yes foot traffic to stores are down but people will still go to physical stores. Private equity firms oftentimes took over perfectly fine retail stores and stripped them down to the studs because that’s how they got paid. They made more money bankrupting stores than they did revitalizing them. To me, that’s the real culprit of the decline of American mall retail chains.
Noticing a disturbing trend at Memphis City Council & Shelby County Commission meetings:
They’re muting the mics of citizens who dare criticize an elected official or action by that govt body.
That is un-American. Period. We have free speech in America. LET THE PEOPLE SPEAK!🇺🇸

I think one of the saddest things about modern childhood is the loss of cartoons as inheritance. I grew up watching Scooby-Doo reruns decades after it first aired. Kids today have more content than ever, but perhaps less shared cultural inheritance across generations.
I need your help with something, even if it’s just a retweet:
I’m working on a story about the evolution of video games and the KEY to my story is a guy named Oscar Munoz who worked for Sega’s customer service dept in the early 1990s.
I’ve tried everything to find him and this is my last resort.
