Imagine if Danielle Smith and UCP spent as much time fixing healthcare, lowering power bills, addressing the data breach, and standing up to separatists as they do meddling in municipal affairs.
Alberta would be a much better place.
The problem isn't municipalities.
The problem is the Premier's priorities.
For months, the Premier changed the rules for the separatists. Their signatures were not even checked. The court ruled their petition was unconstitutional, but the Premier still gave her separatist allies a referendum.
But when it comes to coal mining on the Eastern Slopes, there are suddenly new rules. Now, it’s considered too late.
This is hypocritical.
A new UN report says Israel is committing genocide by DELIBERATELY TARGETING PALESTINIAN CHILDREN and I can’t find anything about it from @nytimes@AP@washingtonpost@CNN@SkyNews…
How is this not the top headline at every major news outlet?
Over 200,000 Albertans came out and signed a petition saying no coal mining on the Eastern Slopes. Now the Premier says it's too late to put the petition question to a referendum.
For months, the Premier changed the rules for the separatists. Their signatures weren't even validated. The court said their petition was unconstitutional. But the Premier gave her separatist friends their referendum anyway.
But when it comes to coal mining on the Eastern Slopes, suddenly there's all these rules. Suddenly it's too late.
This is hypocrisy.
Alberta's New Democrats have always been clear: no coal mining on the Eastern Slopes.
Well, he is also the Finance Minister that seems to thing giving Albertans $100 is enough to offset the cost of a years-long affordability crisis the UCP have ignored…
The UCP don’t seem to be good with math or money. #ableg
Here's the process as set out by the Citizen Initiative Act, which by my math means the UCP could manage to get through the fall sitting (starts in Oct) without settling this (session is shorter than 90 days).
That in turn would push it to spring, which based on recent scheduling would likely be March 2027.
Elections Alberta confirms that they were asked by the UCP about a referendum question deadline, and that it was June 1st for the reasons listed below.
As Israeli forces push to seize even more of Gaza’s territory, many Palestinians are left questioning whether the diplomatic process has any meaning at all.

Premier Smith cites an Elections Alberta deadline for keeping Water Not Coal from a 2026 referendum.
However, she seems poised to disregard an Elections Alberta deadline in order to redraw electoral boundaries for the next election.

I am deeply troubled by the hateful graffiti targeting a Muslim school and daycare in north Edmonton.
Schools and daycares are places meant for childrens’ learning, and growth. No parent or educator should ever have to explain to a child why their school or daycare became a target of hate.
Every child in Alberta, no matter their faith or background, deserves to walk into their daycares and classrooms feeling safe, valued, and welcome.
The recent rise in anti-immigrant sentiments manifests itself in such incidents and this needs to stop.
We need to work together to build a province rooted in safety, belonging, and genuine community.
Can you stop supplying Israel with Canadian made weapons used to kill thousands of Palestinian health and humanitarian workers and bomb the aid supplies, @AnitaAnandMP@MarkJCarney?
It will actually be cheaper for Canada and more effective at addressing the root causes of the need for aid.

Israel’s genocide has been funded by many people who bought Israeli bonds underwritten by major global banks. Barclays and BNP have stopped that: good.
Now waiting for @GoldmanSachs, @BankofAmerica, @Citi, @DeutscheBank and @jpmorgan to do the same.

Today, Smith announced that she is not going to allow Albertans to vote on the Water not Coal petition for literally YEARS.
How do we know?
Let's start with the clip from "Your Province, Your Premier" where she states she'll follow the process in the act...

Alberta, what do you get out of the $91,000,000, yes, $91 million referendum?
Nothing.
This $91 million could have been spent on building 3 schools, or 4 senior homes, or emergency rooms, hiring doctors or nurses.
Instead, you get nothing.

WHY are we letting Israeli soldiers destroy every inch of Palestine? Is it ''a war''? Would you accept others do this to you and your home?
Let's stop this genocide together.

Harm reduction saves lives. The provincial government is defunding harm reduction services, which is a cruel policy decision that will result in more overdoses and deaths.
Crazy that this is getting barely any coverage. This year’s European Press Prize was just awarded to an investigative report by the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant. It is entitled “What the Wounds Tell” and in it the journalists Maud Effting and Willem Feenstra document the cases of 114 children in Gaza under the age of 15 who were struck by a single bullet to the head or chest. Almost all of them died or were left severely disabled. They chose to document only the cases of boys and girls under the age of 15 (though often much younger: aged 3, 4 or 7) because these are children who can be immediately identified as such. “A single bullet in these parts of the body is a clear indication that these children were deliberately targeted“, the two journalists write.

A new report from @YorkUniversity's Islamophobia Research Hub reveals a troubling reality: despite being highly educated, Muslim Canadians continue to face lower incomes, higher unemployment, and greater rates of poverty than their non-Muslim counterparts.
The findings point to a persistent “Muslim wage gap,” with Muslim workers earning significantly less than non-Muslims with comparable levels of education. The report estimates that these disparities result in over $1.2 billion in lost income annually.
These outcomes cannot be explained by education or qualifications alone. They raise important questions about the role of systemic barriers, discrimination, and Islamophobia in shaping economic opportunities for Muslim communities across Canada.

The NDP is taking aim at the federal government after the IJF revealed it spent tens of millions on a secret contract with controversial tech company Palantir.
