I don’t know what to say anymore. As doctors, we can’t stop a genocide and we can’t end a famine.
We provided a diagnosis - genocide.
We provided a prescription to end the genocide - for Canada to end its complicity and direct involvement in Israel’s crimes now.
Canada's sanctions regime against Russia includes a comprehensive two-way arms embargo.
But Canada applies no comparable measures against Israel – even in the midst of an ongoing genocide. To the contrary, Israeli arms manufacturers like Elbit Systems are free to acquire Canadian companies whose technology can be used to entrench Israel's unlawful military occupation of Palestine.
This is yet another example of Canada failing to fulfill its obligation "not to render aid or assistance in maintaining the situation created by the continued presence of the State of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory." (ICJ Advisory Opinion, July 19, 2024)
It should be illegal for Israel’s top arms producer to purchase a Canadian company.
Elbit Systems is complicit in the genocide of Palestinians.
Cancel the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement, enact sanctions and a two-way arms embargo now.
Elbit systems is Israel’s largest private weapons company. They provide many of the weapons and infrastructure carrying genocide and occupation in Palestine.
Canada has an ongoing arms trade with Israel, including weapons shipments to Elbit systems, from local suppliers across Canada including from here in Ottawa.
Billet Precision is a local parts manufacturer here in Ottawa. They have partnerships with defence contractors and governments. They make parts for military aircraft, other vehicles, and weapons, communications, and surveillance systems. They recently shipped weapons components to an Elbit Systems facility in occupied Palestine.
This horrific genocide is made possible because of companies in our own backyards supplying the Israeli military with the means to carry out mass slaughter. You can oppose this reality by:
1) Demand that Billet Precision stop shipping components to Elbit Systems (visit the website https://t.co/LXgrQ9lljn for more information and template letters)
2) Put up posters in your neighbourhood, and talk about this issue
3) Demand that Canada sanction Elbit Systems
We all have a role to play in ending these atrocities against the Palestinian people being committed by Israel, supported by our taxpayer dollars and companies in our backyard.
Wow, there's a giant NDA (non-disclosure agreement) up as a Nuit Blanche art installation calling out the silencing of curators and artists who've spoken critically of Israel. It's in the alley off Spadina south of Richmond leading to Cinecycle. By No Arms in the Arts.
This is appalling, irresponsible and likely criminal. Threatening and inciting others to remove a Canadian political leader for his political views is outrageous. Both the author and the National Post must retract, apologize and reverse this message at once.
The ongoing genocide, war crimes, apartheid and occupation of Palestinian lands are fundamentally based on Zionist reasoning. That is why it is not antisemitic to be Anti-Zionist. To endorse Zionism is to condone serious violations of international law @gary_srp@Safety_Canada
Cornell banning pro-palestine students and wrist-slapping r*pists is NOT a double standard. It is THE standard.
This story is many people’s first introduction to the imperialism/r*ape framework in post-colonial theory established by thinkers like Edward Said and Gayatri Spivak. Institutions and administrators who uphold and normalize this behavior abroad on a global level have very likely engaged in the violation of people’s sovereignty and autonomy in their own personal lives.
Accountability on any level could take down the whole edifice.
rape an unconcious woman behind a dumpster? you have a bright future.
gang rape a woman with your teammates? you'll still get drafted to the NHL.
drug & rape a student with your frat bros? just write an essay.
say 'free palestine'? expelled & charged with acts of terrorism.
these seven frat boys at Cornell were accused of gang r*ping a fellow student, who was drugged and assaulted over and over for a period of approximately four hours.
screenshots of the fraternity "Chi Phi Activities" group showed one of them texting there was “free p*ssy” upstairs.
the university suspended them, but offered them a way back if they wrote essays.
none of these alleged gang rapists was charged with a crime.
meanwhile, the university arrested and prosecuted students who protested against genocide.
I’m so grateful to have spent some time in Cape Town, South Africa - connecting with some incredible and inspiring public health colleagues and comrades who have been so very steadfast in their solidarity organizing for Palestinian life and liberation. Our work in public health is inseparable from a commitment to social political movements for human rights, and Palestine is never an exception but rather a guiding light. Free Palestine. 🇵🇸
1/Parl Secretary should be able to vote according to conscience.
Sean Casey supported my C-233, which sought to close loophole in Canada’s arms export controls.
If MPs face consequences for exercising independent judgment, what “free vote” actually mean?

Supporting draft legislation to bring Canada into alignment for its commitments under international treaties to prevent human rights violations, will get you demoted in this Canadian government. Says a lot about this current Canadian government.
Charlottetown MP Sean Casey says he was demoted because he supported an NDP arms export control bill. In an interview with CBC News, Casey said PMO told him yesterday that's why he was removed from his role as parliamentary secretary. https://t.co/FCRc0UA5nA
- reads from teleprompter
- immediately starts with October 7th
- still won’t call it a genocide
- says he doesn’t know enough about what’s happening
- makes no apology to Macklemore or addresses dropping him from the tour
- doesn’t mention where his donation will be going to
- doesn’t encourage anyone to donate
- won’t say Israel is the reason Gaza is suffering
- won’t say free Palestine
- only cries when he sees people showed up to the concert because that’s what he cares more about.
Fuck him.
If you support Palestine you must support Sudan. If you support Congo you must support Haiti. And vice versa. Our struggles are connected. They always have been. We’ve always supported one another. It’s just outsiders who constantly try to pit us against each other.
I hope this episode with Ed Sheeran and Macklemore demonstrates to the masses how powerful we are collectively, how much power each of us holds individually to withdraw our consent and complicity, and refuse silence. Thank you to every musician who dropped out, and to every ticket holder demanding a refund and refusing to attend.
