Senator Cory Booker Blocks Bid to Strip Federal Protections from Gray Wolves
Gray wolves have been granted a temporary reprieve in the United States after Senator Cory Booker blocked an attempt to remove their federal protections under the Endangered Species Act.
Republican Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin sought to fast-track the Pet and Livestock Protection Act (S.1306) through the Senate by unanimous consent. The bill would remove gray wolves from the federal endangered species list and return management of the species to individual states.
However, Senator Booker objected to the request, preventing the legislation from passing through the expedited procedure. Under Senate rules, a single senator can stop a unanimous consent request, meaning the bill cannot advance in that manner.
Supporters of the legislation argue that wolf populations have recovered well beyond federal recovery goals and that states should once again be responsible for managing wolves. They say growing wolf numbers are increasing conflicts with livestock owners, pets and some wild game populations.
Conservation organisations welcomed Booker’s intervention, arguing that gray wolves still require federal protection in parts of the country and warning that delisting could lead to increased hunting and trapping before populations are secure nationwide.
The move does not permanently stop the legislation. Instead, it prevents it from being approved quickly by unanimous consent. The bill could still be debated and voted on through the normal Senate legislative process at a later date.

🇷🇺soldier to his mom:
“I’m afraid. We’re bombing all of the cities together, targeting civilians. We were told that they’d welcome us – they’re falling under 🇷🇺armored vehicles, throwing themselves under the wheels, not allowing us to pass. They call us fascist. There’s so hard”.
I am so honored to be nominated for the #WPMOYChallenge this year. To have an honor like this while in recovery means so much to me and the Cam Newton Foundation. Please keep tweeting
