Anti-synthetase syndrome (ASyS): Consensus on nomenclature and abbreviation for anti-synthetase syndrome is now done. Everyone should use this nomenclature and abbreviation for the ASyS going forward: an IMACS project https://t.co/VZI7Qx77Tc
@Factor_XII@VUMCDiscoveries@mvalliance @VUMC_ID @VUMC_Medicine @VUMCHospitalMed As a rheumatologist, please don’t take away my CRP! I do agree it’s probably over ordered. For example, there are few cases who truly need a daily CRP.
What do you think you’d unearth if you analyzed the trends of millions of patients with #SLE during #pregnancy over the course of 30 years? @BarnadoLab answers this question & more in the latest episode of ACR Journals on Air. Listen → https://t.co/xX94rJ9yJy @ACR_Journals
@BichileT Yes, I had a patient this week having a hard time finding PO MTX as the pharmacy said it was back ordered too. Hopefully the shortages end soon.
Super important: clinicians need to be careful about ordering ANAs for screening, since such a small % of them are clinically relevant.
And since a majority of the "positives" get referred to rheumatology, it makes it harder for people with definite inflammatory issues to get in with us.
Don't order an ANA for: chronic fatigue or chronic pain without symptoms/signs of inflammation
Do order an ANA: if the patient has features of lupus or scleroderma.
@rheum_cat I published there a few years back. Before we submitted, my mentor pulled me aside to double check if I really wanted “anal chem” forever on my CV.
@Factor_XII I’ll be interested to hear other thoughts on this. I was always afraid about people doubling up on APAP but so many of the pain management guidelines have changed in the few years since I finished residency.
@doc_halliday11@phlegmfighter@smlungpathguy As a rheumatologist, I’d sure like to know if the patient had extra-articular disease. If so, we’d be judging treatment effects based on both the joints and lung.
