Rivian is replacing an early-build R2 after repeated A/C compressor issues, and engineering wants to keep the vehicle to study what went wrong.

The owner says the first compressor failed in August, a replacement part was later placed on a containment hold, and Rivian eventually decided on a full vehicle swap.

So far, there’s no public evidence of a broader A/C recall, and NHTSA complaints don’t show a widespread compressor issue.

This is the part of an early ramp that matters just as much as volume.

Finding problems fast, fixing them, and feeding them back into production.
