@BarbLarochelle Removing Smith and installing a separatist leader would frscture the UCP, a good portion of the caucus would leave and there would be a new government.
Best case actually.
@MelissaLMRogers On the other hand, Canada labour participantion rate is significantly higher than the US (65% vs 61%) where many prime working age people have just given up. If the US had Canada's rate, the US unemployment rate would be 9.01%.
@acoyne Actually there is a process under the Canadian Constitution, which is both written and not: Reference re Secession of Quebec https://t.co/cuqydSaNpG .
This doesn't seem to be it. But a "stay" vote should put an end to the nonsense.
The undercard votes are more problematic.
@RickBellwrites Strangely, the photo in the licence plate will be the part of Alberta we will lose if Alberta separates. The National Parks are federally owned.
@RickBellwrites Strong and Free was only added as the provincial motto in 1980 to celebrate 75 years of Alberta as a provincr within Confederation.
The words were lifted from the National Anthem: O Canada.
@cspotweet Strangely, Foris et Libre, the provincial motto, was not included until June 30, 1980 when it was added to celebrate 75 years of Alberta as a province.
The next day was Dominion Day (Canada Day). We all sung the song where the words owere taken from: O Canada.
@BarbLarochelle It was intended to go to a special committee in the hope it would sent to the legislature to be voted on. The law at the time would have prevented other referendums on similar issues for 5 yrs.
However, the legislature or the committee could always have sent it to a referendum.
@NewWorldHominin Curiously, CBC has not released any statement regarding this. There appears to be an email sent to certain media figures which has not, to my knowledge, been made public.
@ABHank76467601@RiseOfAlberta No, equalization is a federal policy supported by the Constitution. It allows for similar provincial services so things are not dependent on provincial taxation powers..
@AbJrogg@TheAnnaMurphy 🇨🇦 is effectively gaining a whole new export pipeline by stealth. Trans Mountain’s compressor upgrades are adding 300,000 bpd—matching the capacity of the entire legacy line. Pushing total West Coast capacity to 1.19M bpd.
Another new pipeline without laying a single new pipe.
@duchess_elle What is Canada says to aboriginal peoples: we don't want to be on the hook for Alberta's obligations, why don't we just agree to anul the treaties. Alberta can negotiate the surrender of your rights anew.
@daviddrury604@CHEK_News The CBC story on the deception actually led by stating as a fact there were hundreds of unmarked graves at the Kamloops site.
As I understand there were 215 gpr anomalies, 15 of which appear to be from a prior archeological dig.
