This means asylum seekers could go straight to the border and apply instead of entering the country first!

I believe moving these applications to border gates could be a strategy to avoid the community protests happening around immigration offices.

Think about it!

Border gates are far away from most communities. Applicants, including those from Bangladesh and other countries, could complete the process without facing the same public scrutiny.

But my biggest question remains:

HOW DO YOU VERIFY SOMEONE'S IDENTITY, BACKGROUND AND ASYLUM CLAIM IN LESS THAN 60 SECONDS?

If this is how the system will operate, South Africans deserve a proper explanation!

the Chinese brands made a significant impact, with their share rising from 14.8% to 20% of national sales

Vehicles from Chinese and other Asian manufacturers that entered South Africa at competitive prices four to five years ago are now reaching the stage at which their owners would typically consider trading them in.

But the depreciation of these vehicles has been sharper than many buyers anticipated, which has created a mismatch between their trade-in values and outstanding vehicle finance.

Because the vehicle is worth less than the outstanding finance, owners are having to delay trading it in or find additional money to settle the difference.

Precautionary water quality alert in Bezuidenhout Valley
Johannesburg Water confirms that the water samples collected last week met the required water quality standards including confirmation from the final test outcomes.

As an additional precaution and form of assurance, a second set of samples was
collected last night, 25 October 2026, to verify water quality before restoring supply for
consumption and use.

A water supply interruption delayed the collection of these follow-up samples.

The affected properties are along 8th Avenue, at the corners of 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Streets.

Customers must continue to refrain from using the water until Johannesburg Water issues an official clearance notice.

Tankering will continue while the restriction remains
in place.

Customers will be notified once the follow-up results have been assessed and Water Quality clearance has been issued.

We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience and disruption caused, however, it is important that there is adequate assurance of the testing outcomes.

Please be
assured of our seriousness and urgency to attend to the matter.

GAUTENG POLICE SEIZE COUNTERFEIT GOODS WORTH R696,000

SAPS seized 9,602 counterfeit and illicit items worth R696,135 during operations at 24 shops across Meyerton, Temba, Crown Mines and Fochville between 19 and 23 October 2026.

The seizures included counterfeit food and other products, illegal medicines, poison, textiles, games and approximately 250kg of counterfeit taxi/Ntsu snuff, along with processing and packaging equipment.

The operations involved the SAPS Gauteng Counterfeit Unit, local police and brand protection representatives as part of efforts to combat illicit trade and protect consumers and legitimate businesses.
