And here it is... My first book will land in the world on November 9. I hope it lands well. I’m both nervous and excited. Writing is not easy, especially about yourself, and penning this book was certainly tough at times. But honestly… What a ride!
Emily Wilson, whose translation of THE ODYSSEY Nolan relied on heavily while writing his adaptation, posted this disoriented critique this morning. She’s proposing a kind of anti-ODYSSEY, captained by a narrative helmsman that would steer the story even farther off course.
Fudging the lines here a bit, but I stand by them…
Cramer, WHAT IT TAKES
Sheehan, A BRIGHT SHINING LIE
Spector, EAGLE AGAINST THE SUN
Catton, THE ARMY OF THE POTOMAC TRILOGY
I love seeing @jordan_harper get a little NYT sunshine. I've been reading his work for awhile now, and every one has been an absolute banger.

“A mind tutored by history and literature knows that actors in the grip of a sacred cause tend to mean what they say — and that bombing a founding myth is more likely to consecrate it than to dissolve it.”

For sale: Hot take, overcooked, stale.
(Anyway... Logging off for another month or more. I'll be wherever I am, which is infinitely better than here, it seems.)
